Took my iphone to apple for battery service rather than do myself as i normally do on older ones because of the water seal etc and wanted it doing right.

1 week later phone gets wet from rain droplets and water gets in, trashes the face id camera, phone gets red hot and then screen goes all messed up.

Was away so couldnt get into apple store straight away. Screen now rightened over last few days ad its onviously dried out but face id still camera broke.

Went in today and they opened it up said all was fine and no trace if water. Refused to accept the issue. Said theyd knock price of battery off a new true depth camera and works out about £70.

Not very happy. If id dunked it in a pool or sumat if have been better off i reckon.

So phone works fine apart from faceid now which is a pain as it was a good feature.

im sure there was a fault wity the seal. Phone was fine 20 min previously.

Anyone know my rights here? technician was on my side but his manager wasnt having it.

I had an ipod nano a fair few years back mine broke down after a about 3 months , sent it off & they came back with "it's been dropped in water" No it fking well hadn't, had to pay about £70 to get it fixed. Never went back to Apple , never will

I had a similar experience after having battery replaced. Seal wasn’t good enough and got damp on holiday in a rainstorm. It slowly stopped working. Went to apple, they said I shouldn’t have got it wet…

Might be a stupid question but you haven’t put a screen protector on without the top section/camera cut out have you?

so much for water resistant to 1m for 60 mins or whatever it is. Bloody rain drops. Doh. No faith now in it getting damp again.

I just replaced the battery myself with one off Amazon about 6 months ago. Never had any bother. I was planning on getting it replaced properly but they made it stupidly hard to get an appointment so I gave up on them. Glad I did now.

yeah the camera is at side of the speaker. Wife bought a new screen protector and couldn’t understand why the Face ID had stopped working. When I looked it had no cut out :D

I didn’t think it was possible to replace the camera. Even by apple, for security Touch ID and Face ID parts are supposed to be paired with the phones mother board from iPhone 7 up.

Apple rarely actually repair owt in the shop just swap it with another phone. I do all iPhone repairs myself

yeah its the chips. Looks like i have to either suck it up or stay without face id and keep a lookout for a decently priced 11/12. Cant justify a brand new un and dont want an extortionate contract. Normally go sim free and pick up 2nd hand phones.

They are easy to do yourself mate but to be honest id be looking to pick up a more modern one. Some very cheap 7s and even 10s now which wont cost much more than an apple battery replacement. The 5 wont update OS any more so you will have issues with apps and websites etc eventually. Ok as an ipod and making calls rest will be useless.

Sorry I missed out an important bit .. it’s a 5 SE updated in 2020.

IOS has updated to 15.5 .

It’s only 2 yrs old and cost about £330 ( direct from Apple )
    I know it’s not as hi-tech as 11’s upwards but it’s a nice small size !!

Isn’t there something about phones of that model not updating anymore and having an effect on batteries?
