Slightly off topic and maybe me just waffling but does anyone think taking one of the small units in the glassworks would be a good move? I know they have a stall in the Alhambra but let’s be honest it’s pathetic. Surely having a unit with normal opening hours and passing footfall especially from the younger generation in a weekend would pick up more sales than just the store at the ground which unless you specifically go there you won’t ever visit. Also would it be feasible to add ticket sales at the store again I’m sure they would get a lot more sales than just through the box office.
I'd guess not. How much is rent for a year in one such unit? 15k? (Presumably no rates due to size of the store although could be wrong on that). Salary for 1/2 staff for a year. That's a fair amount of ADDITIONAL profit to make (ie those who wouldn't instead go to the club shop on the next matchday) to make it worthwhile. Didn't the club try it once before?
It was just an idea I know personally I’d be much more inclined to go in and potentially buy something as I’m passing which let’s be honest is far more often than passing the club superstore which is hardly ever
Mug for this mug for that yer just finish up with shelves or cupboards full of em, Thought we were moving away from selling tat. 135 years indeed. Need a decent artist to turn into 136 years for the season after.
My view on that Paul. Is prior to season start (eg fathers day, ) then pre xmas. Would to be to rent a unit where everything can be displayed and pre ordered if necessary. I'm not sure it would be cost effective based on the rent. And what value it would bring over and above clubshop sales. But those are the Two periods where sales are at a peak. The small stall that was used in the Alhambra I'm guessing isn't worth the hassle or cost. I travel into town a lot. And the amount of custom it attracted looked pretty poor.
I wonder if the club bothered to approach the council to negotiate a rent free or low rent deal for one of the vacant glassworks stalls like other retailers did. Actually with how nice the market is they could take a unit upstairs for a really low price too or even approach the Alhambra now that it's desperate to cash and renters.
It always amuses my daughter when I walk past the blue and white, and red and white rag shops in meadowhell….
Bothered? Here's another take. I wonder if the club discounted the idea based on past experiences where the revenue stayed similar and costs were increased/profits reduced because of the additional operational costs. It's no way a dead cert to increase revenue even if the unit is low cost/no cost. It still has to be staffed/fitted out etc/ heated etc etc
