How could we as a club/fan base improve the atmosphere in the stadium on matchdays? (Aside from the obvious - sell more tickets ) A singing section has been discussed at times in the past but there hasn't been the opportunity to implement it. Vuvuzela's with every season ticket?
for me, bottom line is it's what's happening on the pitch, that generates the atmosphere. has to start from there. I don't think English football full stop, really has the 'ultras' culture that are there to whip up the crowd p.s. by 'ultras' I don't mean far-right football hooligans!
Imo i think a singing section usually establishes itself over years tbh especially at home . I can understand that being put forward for away games ,Wembley etc to keep them together . A winning team is usually the answer or at least a competitive one , The great escape season is one example of how the fans will come together if they see commitment on the pitch they’ll get behind them even if they not winning so many .
How's about getting the team to score more goals? Failing that try shooting at the goal more often. NB - it might help if the team can get the ball in the penalty area
Got given tickets to see a RU game other year at Milton Keynes, think it was Saracens v Bath and have to say the whole day was excellent. Outside before game, there was music played to give a party feel, lots of interaction with fans from individuals and groups, things like face painting teams colours for the kids, games and competitions. Inside the music continued gradually driving the mood up before the game. They even had on every seat paper clappers, which I’m not actually a fan of but credit where credit was due everyone joined in during parts of the game, the noise was incredible and definitely added to the occasion.
You do really need to install a dislike button mate . Drums. Trumpets etc. Probably my biggest hate in football grounds. And I know where to shove the kids vuvus.
You could be on to something here that winning games is the best way to improve the atmosphere in the ground. That and bringing in the chance to bring your dog to the game for a quid #houndforapound
I suspect this hasn't changed much, but down the years I've often been amazed how fast songs are sung at Oakwell compared with other sets of fans. That and how out of kilter the singing can be, so the sound created for the effort put in is dampened. The effect is less noise and songs can often end faster than they should. I've no idea how you change this, maybe some mechanism that acts as a conductor! But aside from that, an effort to attack and cause a bit of excitement is job one. I'd probably also suggest talking to CPFC Supporters clubs to try and elicit ideas. They do seem to be a pretty animated noisy bunch.
Agree with this. The section who generally start songs, stop singing just as everyone else is joining in, and the atmosphere falls flat again. The only exceptions seem to be anything which is fairly new (the Amine Bassi chant for example) or anything remotely offensive (the Bambo Diaby song).
We have to have something to cheer and sing about. A couple of seasons ago we were sadly denied the chance to do that. I fear though that the lack of fans did actually contribute to our success. We have too many moaning minnies who cause our players to fail. Oakwell has never been the greatest of places for a rip roaring atmosphere and it's always sad to be able to hear the away supporters above our own which happened nearly every week last season. Success brings good cheer and the atmosphere would improve. A poor start this time will not improve things and Oakwell will be a morgue again. A good start however ...
Agree DWLc - I'm regularly impressed by the noise and whilst it's difficult to gauge on TV, the atmosphere at Selhurst Park. I'd guess that initially it was part of an orchestrated plan rather than starting organically. And St James' Park too - pretty sure the flags that appeared there in the second half of the season weren't produced or bought by the fans.
