They wore it 5 times in total, drawing once against Forest and losing the other 4 against Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton and Villa.
It’s a fair enough thought process but has colour blindness only just been discovered? Colour blind players and fans have managed to get by for over a century of professional football- why the desperate need now? What has brought it on? I’m comfortable in whatever team wearing whatever if it helps, I’m not precious on Barnsley having to wear red and white at home if there’s a need for that to be different, but I am interested to know what is driving this now.
I’m intrigued over this. I didn’t realise there was a rule in the English game to prevent clubs wearing their away kit at home. Here in Scotland my club have often wore our away kit at home and also at times our 3rd kit for no apparent reason.
what’s driving it is the recognition there’s a need. why now? Cos they’ve finally stopped thinking like your post. They didn’t ‘get by’ they were disadvantaged but no one who wasn’t affected cared enough to do anything about it. Despite the fact the most common colour deficiency is red/green, what colour are traffic lights? Can you imagine having to only understand traffic signals by position? we still have managers at work demanding RAG ratings on some reporting. Trying to explain it’s actually illegal is desperately frustrating.
I read that the change has been brought about because people who are colour blind have raised the issue themselves. You say they've managed to get by, but how many are put off supporting their team because they can't distinguish between the two teams? I don't know the answer, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't people out there. Rather than people having to 'get by', why not do something that benefits everyone, and disadvantages no one?
I read yesterday that in the EFL, home teams must wear their full home strip for 22 of their 23 home league games. They're allowed to play in an alternate strip once a season at home, which is often reserved for shows of awareness or charity. Last season, EFL clubs wore their away strip on boxing day. We didn't play that day, but we did wear purple socks for Weston Park against Stoke iirc.
Women ’got by’ for hundreds of years without the vote, we ‘got by’ with slavery, child labour, without gay rights, without health and safety laws. Where do we draw the line? Who doesn’t deserve equal consideration?
Think that's what people on here are against, mostly they want games played in the red kit. Just like England don't look right in that blue they insist on wesring,!
Is the issue just in case the away team don't have a colour available that will solve the problem but a home switch might lead to a combination that does? Would still like to see home teams wear the home kits whenever and get the away team to wear a colour that solves the problem. If one isn't available then switch the home team.
Yes that's basically it. With teams selling three kits each year there's really no excuse for the away team not being able to make one that isn't a clash tbh. I think this new rule is the wrong way to go about solving the problem. The solution is to make it a requirement to have your change kits considerably different
For example have significantly different tones or use stripes with different colour tones I remember watching football in Black and white when I was young and it was rarely a problem. (Snooker was a bit trickier) Don’t get me wrong I think it’s important that the issue is considered but I just think it’s done to the away team to change. Surely with 3 kits to chose from all bases can be covered.
Home teams should wear their home strip. The away team should wear whatever doesn't clash. Good grief it's not like clubs don't love having umpteen different away strips to flog to fans.
I believe in American Football teams are only allowed 2 shirt colours, one of which has to be white. Never any clashes.
I think the way forward for this would be to ask clubs that may have a clash of kits for the colourblind fans to create a 4th kit to avoid it. I would not allow the clubs to profit off it, though. Instead, it could go on sale, but with 100% of any profits generated going to charities that are researching the condition.
Yeah that blue thing is garbage, but it bugs me as well seeing England in the red n white kit for no reason, as white n navy is our kit. And Im sick of seeing us/Barnsley wear the away kit (every season, whichever kit it is) again for no reason whatsoever!.
