As it now seems virtually certain that Michael Duff is to be our new head coach/manager, I wonder if any of the many people slating the new board for their alleged incompetence in the search for Asbaghi's replacement now think that an apology might be in order. I think Duff may well have been our first choice, and while he has not yet started at Oakwell, the virtually unanimous glowing tributes to him from everyone connected with Cheltenham suggest strongly that we have made a very good appointment. Time will tell, of course.

Calling for people to apologise before he's won a single game is exactly as daft as criticising the board before an appointment has been made.

I didn't actually call for anyone to apologise. I was intending merely to pose a question. Unfortunately, I forgot to put the question mark on the end of the title of the thread.

I think the point being made is that the process was criticised, quite heavily in certain quarters, with some posters calling it a 'spectacular failure'. We were destined to end up appointing someone nobody wanted from the lower leagues, who wasn't even on our shortlist, and the 'judge us by our actions' comments from the board were 'a joke'.

As it stands, we appear to have got someone who was on that initial shortlist. Calling for an apology might be a bit much, but some acknowledgement of patience being needed before folk jump in on the offensive? Was the same when we didn't release an immediate update on relegation, but then announced that Conway and co had left the board.

Can we have a public flogging as well? Anyone who got frustrated at a 10 week announcement should be placed in stocks for a month.

Us being relegated and Paul Conway leaving the board were separate issues and the CEO wouldn't have pissed off as many fans had the CEO apologised for relegation immediately upon it happening. Paul Conway leaving the board was not a justification for refusing to acknowledge relegation.

I don’t think the OP is talking to those of us who just got frustrated though.

I don't particularly care who we appoint as I don't know much about any of the candidates. I only have two issues with it all. The first is that the CEO blamed a lot of last season's failures on hiring school too late meaning we wasted pre season. If we appoint someone tomorrow it's just 7 days difference between last season hiring schopp and this season hiring whoever. The other issue I had wasn't actually to do with hiring or anything but was simply communication. Telling someone that McCarthy had turned the job down was just poor communication which needs to be better if we don't want to come across as incompetent.

Might turn out to be a bag of festering turd. He's come from Cheltenham not Chelsea.

Very happy we seem to have ended up with Duff (although still not officially confirmed yet). Although with that said I still think some of what we have seen during the process has been a bit of a farce.

I do appreciate this was a big appointment they needed to get right, but I do think it's taken a touch too long. Been almost a month since we formally approached Cheltenham to speak with Duff and we almost lost out in the end to Blackpool as they swooped in too it seems.

Also, really really confused by the whole questionnaire thing. Just can't get my head around why it was needed etc. Would love to know the full details of this and what exactly we asked.

It may as well be Chelsea the way some in Cheltenham see their hometown. Delusions of grandeur springs to mind. Surprised there hasn't been a series of Made in Cheltenham.

Why would i or anyone else, apologise to the board for taking two month to appoint a manager/coach who as really hasnt done anything?
    Is it a cheap option?
Who as decided he was the right man seen as we have nobody really on the board who is qualified in football matters?
Of course people have said good things about him, just like the people said that Poya and Schopp were fantastic coaches!
