I've never heard of an underlapping centre back. Is this like an undertaking car sneaking down the nearside lane of the motorway? A ball-carrying defender a la Beckenbauer?

You could have taught Poya a thing or two! His philosophy worked wonders: defend your goal, concede. Defend your goal. Concede. Snatch a consolation. OR.. Score an early goal. Defend your goal. Defend your goal. Defend your goal. Concede in the 85th minute. Defend your goal. Throw on Big Vic in the 95th. Be happy with the point.

In all my years watching football I have never heard the term underlapping centre back! Or have I just not been listening properly?

I’d go more..concede 2 goals, replace a striker with a centre half and try defend a 2-0 loss

Well I for one think it is a pleasant alternative to underwhelming centre-back.

sounds like a mix of stendal, struber and big val, now that could lead to interesting times. lets just hope him and the board ( not borg like the old lot. . . resistance is futile we are the board !) get their 5h1t together on the comings and goings

Ive heard it a few times. And it’s twaddle.

Sometimes there’s scope in a back 3 for one of them to drive forward either with the ball, or to pass and make a run. We’ve seen Helik do it plenty of times.

I think Sheffield united fans were the main users of the term under Wilder. Tactically it’s nothing new, just people trying to make it sound sexy.

What we all have to bear in mind re. the players we constantly criticise is that they were coached into a system of play by coaches who themselves were under a stupid amount of pressure from non football owners. The CEO was a yes man, he had to conform as well. His input was probably dictated from above.
Take away that stupidity from on high, give the club back to football people all the way down and maybe, just maybe, the whole ethos changes and those players who we saw as rubbish might now return to being the good players we know they can be.
Hopefully the pained, anguished looks on the faces of Poya and Schopp told a story of things now passed, let's look for the smiles we used to see with Stendel and the joy that went with the players and fans.
If it is Duff then fingers crossed for some footballing joy and not misery imposed from above,

If we manage to keep morris or woodrow with this man. We could be a force at this level. Lseka is a natural good player but needs a kick up arse.

We have players with selling a couple to win the league. Palmer is decent. He was part of a play off squad and another one who needs a kick up arse.

If we can keep mads because helik and styles will going. It Will be massive.

No rumours of brittain going so he will be great at league 1 level too.

You tell me he played for burnley in the premier league first

Rather have george benson in midfield but hopefully duff can turn his career around having worked with him before...

He did show glimpses of good ability very early on. Still very young and if we can get an older head alongside him, we may well see him and our other young midfielders developing better. I'm not sure we'd get our money back in any transfer and with what, 3 years left on his deal, we need to hope he shows us signs of what he's capable this coming season.

Clean slate though. Let's see what we can do with a fresh face.

Not sure we will get or need any older head beside him we will have kane back who is very experienced at league one level.
Ive heard with benson he has the ability its just the effort and attitude thats the problem but i dont know how true the latter is. Like you say clean slate hope he kicks on and shows us the ability he possess.

We didn't play possession based through midfield then though. Boot ball upfield and press them into making mistakes

Taggart was doing it years ago, loved a storming run forward did Gerry.
