As I've said many times. Bozo and his mates need a bullet in the head. If he doesn't give a **** about the law then why should anyone els?
Vulnerable my backside . Were they vulnerable in France ? Ukrainian women and children are vulnerable not fully grown men who arrive well dressed with mobile phones in their hands ! Where's the females and children family members of these people ? I'm all for taking in people who are desperate and their life's are in real danger
You're a fu¢king disgrace. God forbid you should ever need the services of a nurse or doctor who came here as an immigrant. Admin - I know....free speech, yadda yadda....but do we have to tolerate disgusting stuff like this on the BBS?!?
You do know that the deal is we take Rwandan refugees back in return don’t you and give Rwanda hundreds of millions of pounds so tomorrows flight with 8 refugees on it comes back with over 60 coming our way you do know that don’t you ?
You do realise that the majority of asylum seekers who arrive have their claims approved right? And that we make it impossible for them to apply until they get here. So we are intentionally pursuing a policy which results in the avoidable drowning deaths of the genuinely vulnerable. How do you defend that? As for "well dressed," do you think these Syrian refugees are turning up in Armani suits? Put the Daily Mail down.
You do realise that refugees are often doctors, lawyers, teachers etc, so of course have the means to own a mobile phone? It's not their fault their country has been torn to pieces in a far worse way than Ukraine which means they have to flee. Actually, of course you don't realise that - you don't have a clue about the topic, you're either too lazy to research it, or too thick to understand it.
Dont really want to get into this at all but the ones getting sent to rwanda are coming from France a safe country.
The vast majority of those who come here do so because they either have family here or speak English. Can you imagine how hard it would be to start a new life in a country as an asylum seeker without any family or being unable to even speak the language?
I'll turn the question on its head. Family ties and English being the most widely spoken language in the world (and therefore the language asylum seekers across the board are more likely to speak at an even basic standard) make sense as reasons to me but if they aren't the reasons then what reason or reasons do you believe are a higher priority for them to chose here?
There's a video posted by Farnham Red on page 1 of this thread which gives a good case study on why a small percentage of asylum seekers choose the UK. Alternatively if you have a bit more time I'd recommend reading 'Hope not Fear' by BAFTA winner Hassan Akkad. It documents what happened in Syria and why refugees choose to risk evening to travel, before taking you through the journey from Syria to the UK. Hassan like many refugees is a huge credit to this country. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hope-Not-F...0698&psc=1&th=1&psc=1&ref_=d6k_applink_bb_dls
How about half an ounce of common sense? France treat asylum seekers better than we do, their benefits system is more generous, and as you say it's a 'safe' country. So, given all those easily verifiable facts - what would entice an asylum seeker to make a dangerous journey from france to the UK? You only need to see the stats once to know that the UK has a tiny percentage of all asylum seekers, contrary to what the Neanderthals on the right want you to believe. Why ignore the easy to find evidence and instead listen to the racists?
52% have family members here - https://academic.oup.com/inthealth/article/9/6/335/4791936?login=false I read a study which suggested that a further c. 20% choose England for language reasons. I can't find it now from a quick search, but I'm not sure there's any basis for suggesting it isn't credible.
This thread has turned in the direction i feared but suspected it would. I'd just like to know.... if anyone wants to have an open discussion about it.... why are people travelling to our country to work seen as a bad thing? And why is it a bad thing that some people fleeing terror and persecution choose the UK? On a separate topic.... has anyone noticed that we have record numbers of job vacancies at present now that we've left the EU and struggle to access a bigger workforce and we've also had 2 consecutive months of negative growth?
So we’re sending a massive aeroplane that can seat possibly 200 ( not sure probably more) but anyway this plane will have between 8-11 ‘passengers’ on board. The financial and green issues alone, should make us all outraged, before we even get to discussing the ethical and moral issues.
It's only early on Tuesday.... And so far this week we've set out to break international law causing a ratcheting up of tensions in NI. Have unveiled a food strategy with no strategy in it. Are pushing forward with shipping a tiny amount of asylum seekers to a country with awful human rights abuses. Are pushing forward to scrapping Natural England, the body tasked with aiding us to look after our environment. Have reported GDP contracted in April. And that we have a record number of job vacancies, meaning there aren't enough people to fill the roles and deliver critical services. And UK wages are falling at their fastest rate for 2 decades. And this list isn't exhaustive.
I’m not sure if you realise but there are no ‘legal’/safe ways for refugees to claim asylum in the UK, unless you are Ukrainian. There had to be a specific scheme set up for Ukrainians after public desire to help. The reason they needed a scheme at all, and couldn’t use the current on, is because there wasn’t a current one. You can only apply for asylum once you step foot on British soil and an embassy does not count. There is no way to get a visa to get on a plane or boat to step foot on British soil unless: you have a place at a university, a job offer in specific sectors, you are travelling temporarily for a holiday or you have certain specific family members here. You cannot get a refugee visa, one does not exist unless you are Ukrainian. The above means that Ukrainian women and children have a safe way to travel here and are doing so. Refugees from any other country do not have a safe way to travel here. The journey is too dangerous for most women and children, therefore the men attempt the journey with the plan of getting refugee status and then bringing over their wives and children on a visa that they would now be able to get as they have a specific family member (husband and father) in Britain. The men must step foot on British soil to apply for refugee status to then begin the process of bringing their family here. The only way they can do that, as we are an island and do not allow non Ukrainian refugees safe travel here, is to travel by dinghy. This puts them at the mercy of people traffickers. Shipping them on to Rwanda won’t stop the people traffickers as they will already have their money. Women and children who were planning on joining them here will have no means of contact and may never see their husbands/fathers again. Edit: Even if you are Ukrainian, you can only get a Visa is someone chooses to sponsor you, and people are having to set up their own sponsors. That is not how claiming asylum is supposed to work. If they did allow that system for others, many of those travelling illegally would be able to get a Visa and travel safely as they have extended family and friends here who would be happy to sponsor them, they just haven’t been given the chance.
