It always happens like that. They never announce a team for the whole series at home.

    Also neither do other teams.

Just got back in from what I can only describe as an unbelievably fantastic day. An absolute privilege to be present to watch that - I'm still scrambling for superlatives about Jonny B, the controlled brutality and dominance of his strokeplay and the way his partnership with Stokes went. Just keep pinching myself!

Jonny's innings brought a particular tear to my eye as his Dad David (RIP) presented me with my first cricket medal many, many moons ago when I was a 9-year-old.

Second fastest England ton ever, highest ever chase at Trent Bridge and the most boundaries in a Test Match in Test History. Wow, what a day.

Super credit to Nottinghamshire for the decision to have free entry - I wouldn't have been able to go otherwise - and I think they have been rewarded with a whole load of new cricket converts and bumper food and merchandising receipts. Lovely atmosphere and genuine joy at what we were witnessing.

Think originally it had something to do with the fact that there's a ODI series in Holland in between the Second and Third Tests. (But a bit later on they decided to pick a completely different squad for the ODIs in Holland).

Just had a look, this is the second highest total ever to lose a match with (837).

We lost to the Aussies at Headingley in 1948 after making 861. Eng 496, Aus 458, Eng 365/8 declared and they pulled it back with 404/3 in the final innings.

Highest 21st century defeat total is India in Adelaide with 759.

What a game this was. A proper all-time classic. Anyone aged 7-11 who's been following this will be someone who gives a **** about cricket now. The BBC's coverage has been decent, too.

I must have it wrong .. I always thought home 5 match series were selected squads for each game and any lesser series were squads for the total games.
Anyway, I’ll release my boring button and won’t mention it again !

Noticed that he’s 4th or 5th in all time ODI averages as well

They normally pick a 12/13 and in rare times a 14 man squad.

Then they will pick a squad part of the series normally covering a back to back Test.

His strike rate is fantastic. Not all 6s and 4's. And spectacular Compared to the likes of Bairstow and Stokes. He keeps the board ticking over at a good rate which some don't realise.

Almost impossible to stop Root scoring unless its in the last 5 overs and they are going for 6's.

He picks Length better than anyone else at the moment so the bowler can't tie him down.

Perhaps he’ll play in some 50 over games this year.
He played against Sri Lanka last summer and did we play any in winter ?
    I don’t think we did.

He’s obviously not in Netherlands team.

Because we’ve plenty power hitters, I think his T20i days are over

Simon Doull was right then about Crawley getting another chance. That has to be it though unless he gets a big score.

It just seems wrong that Brook is so much in form and Crawley isn’t.
If he was an opener, problem solved ….
