I’m confused, we keep getting told we are in the post-pandemic era, but I’ve just tested positive for COVID, the virus clearly didn’t get the memo, my 50th birthday plans for the weekend ruined. Happy fkn birthday to me!
I read yesterday that we're due a spike in cases, as it seems to routinely happen every 3 months. I'd not heard of anyone testing positive since the end of February, until the last couple of weeks and there seems to be quite a lot again.
There is a spike of people in my work (though I’m working from home and based out of Leeds, a lot of my colleagues are Glasgow based), and the strain is presenting as a nasty sickness bug initially, folk testing positive a lot with their only symptom being the nausea and vomiting.
I'm sure it's no consolation but I tested positive yesterday as well and missed the Mavis Staples gig at the Usher Hall last night. Like you, it just feels like a bad cold and hopefully that's as bad as it will get.
Covid is here forever. It's all about learning to live with it. The doom brigade like Independent Sage went quiet when cases dropped like a stone but are quick to mention the tiniest of rises in hospital admissions.
I've got it too, just feels like a headcold at the moment. We're going to keep getting it for the rest of our lives so may aswell just get used to it.
That's all well and good for the majority of the population. Just don't forget there are a good number (numbers vary, but widely thought to be 750k to 1.5m) of people (and those that co-habit with them) who can't live with it. Living with it would mean likely dieing from it.
I know and i do sympathise with people like yourself and your wife, I don't what the answer is though. Hopefully a solution will be found in time.
Last time I tested positive I did the rightful thing of walking around Hillsboro chatting to as many people as possible,
You do know we are still running at around 100 deaths per day and cases will rise anyway after the jubilee weekend. We are still in the pandemic - only Tory politicians are claiming we are now in a post covid world in some bizarre effort to keep Bozo in a job. We should be learning to live with it but thats not the same as pretending its not there anymore and never happened It doesnt mean full on lockdown but it does mean sensible precautions - it might also be smart to plan a new set of vaccinations as its known that the effects fade over time - AFIK only people over 75 are being lined up for another one - that seems a bit short sighted even over 65's get an annual flue jab and others can pay for one if they dont qualify for a free one - but I dont see any sign of this happening with Covid
As I said covid is here forever. It's not going anywhere so people need to decide for themselves what's best for them. People can't be expected to wear masks forever. I have had three jabs but would be weary of having a 4th if it's offered because I feel uneasy at pharma companies making billions for something that wears off after a few weeks. It would have to be a much better quality of jab.
Depends on what your definition of post covid is. If you believe it means there is no longer Covid-19 then I don't believe that is ever going to be the case. There will never be a post covid world. If you believe it means after the first infections were documented and the disease was identified then this is it, that's what we're living in. I believe it's the latter, I believe many things in this post covid world such as health implications, both directly related to the infection and as a knock on effect, and the price of living are worthy of it being defined.
And coming up we’ve got Live in Barnsley, Pride march etc. I think we’re going to have a big local spike unfortunately. Can’t go the rest of our lives wrapped up in bubble wrap though.
