Well at least it's not just Hungary and us and their footie fans then. The whole world is racist. Which let's face it is probably both sad and true. Just come back from holiday in Italy and it's certainly no better there. And I'm so dense I generally don't notice these things.
Been at the game tonight, just on the train back. Amazing how the atmosphere turned from a carnival to absolutely toxic within an hour. I am better than Kalvin Phillips
Seems they could’ve chanted through both national anthems . Hungarians could’ve chanted something like we don’t send refugees that aren’t white to unstable countries . Might be a bit long but factually correct . Seems we both have racist Governmemts
Hungary is going through a particularly bleak period at the moment. England/UK (England really), we're empire builders, that's the stain on our history. We're not particularly that racist. I use that in the way of comparison rather than absolute as I know there are many who could give personal accounts that contradict that. But evened out, historically, we've had a reasonably fair society. We have, on a number of occasions, opposed fascism. Italy, and many other European countries, have embraced it.
I would like to think that our empire building has led us to understand and embrace different types from around the world. Things are not right at the moment with this Rwanda stuff though. There's a lot of left wing tripe on here that will never get us a sensible stable existence. Not so much right wing tripe on here, only now and then, cos thankfully it's not a supportive platform. But just like the USA finds itself, if we don't find a middle way, an all encompassing correct way, we're in trouble. I must remember that this is the England football thread, and I'm doing what I hate others to do - hijack it.
They're both very different. From a ball playing perspective, Stones is streets ahead of Maguire. From a traditional, no nonsense, ball winning perspective, Maguire is lightyears ahead of Stones. I think in a game like last night, where the opposition was always going to sit back and we were going to have a lot of possession, particularly along our back line, you need Stones to be at his best. For me, you need both of them, they compliment each other, I think Stones in particular looks weaker without Maguire rather than the other way around.
Ignore the stupidity of the hashtag in his bio for an minute, but I don't see why how useless we are has to be brought in to it.
Think some of the so called superstars of English football should take a lot of the blame in this tournament so far, along with Southgate.
My take on things is they are a group of multi millionaire footballers who have no incentive other than pride to play international football. Back in the day they could earn a few extra quid by becoming a international this lot don't want to be there and this competition means nothing to them
I was there as well. Sat more or less in front of the Albanians. They semi-attacked our coach on the way out. We were surrounded by police but it could have been naughty if not.
