Over pay and conditions. Suppose this govt will accuse them all of being ‘Lefty woke types’ The Public Services Unions are also likely to be deciding soon whether they will be taking similar actions.

Only surprise is its taken so long, Despite what you may have read in the right wing press a lot of them are being treated appallingly and our whole legal system is a total shambles. I follow a few people on legal twitter and its unbeliavable the way our courts are operating at the moment

You're absolutely right. An incredibly expensive profession to qualify for, even harder to get into, and at the junior end there are people earning more working minimum wage.

Like anything, the other end of the pay scale is phenomenal l, but that's a relatively small number.

I wouldn't advise anyone to look at the legal profession anymore. Over commoditised, sweat shops living off the reputation of once being well paid.

The government over the past 12 years have shut courts, reduced operating days, reduced fees,so that most firms, solicitors and barristers, don't take work. Changed the rules and brought in laws during Covid. It's why cases take a long time to come to court.
Justice is only for the wealthy now,in the UK.

I urge anyone with any interest in the criminal justice system to read the Secret Barrister's book. It's in a disgraceful state.

Legal aid has been chipped away at for a very long time, and this is just the latest disgusting effort to completely strip it away from people who the govt deem shouldn't have access to legal support and advice.

    Take back control indeed.

Access is getting worse for ordinary people, the CPS get a lot of flak which is unjustified. The Police service are limited by their low numbers and political interference.

They were recognised as an ‘easy target’ in the 90’s and it’s gone downhill ever since.

The average person can’t get their head round the concept of a fair trial. How often on here do we see people posting about ‘those obviously guilty’ etc.

The thing that galls me most about this incumbent and it's sycophants is the breaking down of infrastructure. law and process which water down scrutiny of the governments deeds. There is so little that actually is still able to do just that as it stands, but stripping back independent bodies to render them at first useless, and in time obsolete to make their scrapping easier and less contentious.

I saw last week that the head of the Electoral commission commented that the changes in the governments bill in effect mean they will be no longer independent. We're in such a dangerous place, I can barely believe we're in 2022. Yet the attacks on decency continue. The rule of law gets butchered week on week.

And still, there are parts of our population that meekly stand and watch and say nothing, or, worse still.... applaud and approve.

Yeah it’s weird that they lecture ‘us’ on being proud of ‘our country’ and it’s values, whilst waging war on:
    BBC
    CH4
    The middle class
    The working class
    Benefit recipients
    The NHS
    The police
    Courts
    Lawyers
    The royal family
    The Union
    Small businesses
    etc etc.

What exactly is it about this country that they love?

And as we speak, the moral vacuum that is Michael Green... or Grant Shapps.... or whatever his name is this week, is currently in the House of Commons blatantly telling lies, and not only that, building on his early slurs to suggest Starmer should be sitting down for "beer and curry" with the trade union barons.

It should be beyond belief that such a known hustler was part of a government cabinet. But it's not. Not now.

to the list of things not to do under the tories - “don’t be old” , “don’t get sick”, “don’t be poor” we can now add “Don’t seek recourse to the law”

You are bang right here. I tell everyone on here, Johnson is far more dangerous than Thatcher ever was.
