Spot on mate, some of the posts in this thread are almost beyond comprehension. Glad it’s a spoof account, I really hope he’s with us next season banging in the goals
Far too good for L1 however that said, it was plainly obvious he didn't really want to be here last season and wasn't up for the fight (not alone). I'd rather have someone who does want to play for us and is committed to getting us back up. I may be wrong and would hold my hands up if so but I don't think so.
Perfectly happy with this, especially since it’s a Championship club. Frees up wages to bring in players Duff wants. A new era begins
Think we have to remember we need c. £6-7m first to get to a financial position we can live within. It's going to be a difficult mindset to bear, I know, but it's not going to be as simple as £250-400k wage goes out of the door so £250-400k wages are freed up for incomings. The basic equation is broadly still:- Transfer Fees Received plus Departure Wage Cost Reductions (Has To) = Any Money Spent on New Players plus £6-7m* * - Less any additional money the new Board put in (they may put in another £1m or so but I can't see them putting £5-6m in).
I think a lot of people would be happy either way. if he doesn't really want to be here (not saying he doesn't) and we need to free the salary up, it probably works all round
Play Helik up front he'd be cra4p. Play Collins on wing he'd be Sh17. Dont play Cauley in the position he scored so many goals for us and he'll not produce. If he goes then good luck. Thank him for his effort and service both on and off the pitch.
Good for Cauley and good for us as well. I like the way it is phrased, 'have given permission,' especially as there have been rumours about Portsmouth, Wednesday etc, but no formal approach. It looks as though Luton have done it the right way. I would hope that we can get one million plus for him and genuinely wish him well. He has been a stalwart servant of the club for more seasons than a lot of fly-by-nighters. Sounds good both ways. I bet they start off with a derogatory offer of around £300k. I hope the board do what they said they would do and stick for a proper valuation. I have a feeling that they will this time.
Has to be 1 million minimum. Regardless of the fact he has a year left, we need to start getting proper fees for players.
I genuinely don't fully understand the '£6-8m gap'. Is that 6-8m spend that we're already committed to, that we have to find/save? Or is it 6-8m that we won't get, that now gets cut from our budget? I'm guessing the former is a much bigger problem than the latter. If it's the latter, I'm guessing the drop is relative to a degree, as most other clubs in L1 also work within similar numbers? Obviously if it's the former, it's a much bigger problem, as that suggests we need to find 6-8m just to break even....and I very much doubt we'll be able to do that. Our entire wage bill is about £7m isn't it?
Isn't it usually the case that permission is given to speak to a player once a valuation has been agreed?
I doubt we'll get anywhere near that. we're not in the driving seat here. we probably need him off the wage bill more than other clubs want to sign him
Realistically you are right, we probably won't get 1 million plus. But given his record in L1 and Championship with us, he should command a fee of over a million even with 1 year left on his deal.
Its the drop in income this coming season - so we need to reduce our outgoings to match the drop in revenue - or someone needs to inject cash into the club. Its money we are mostly committed to spend if all our current players stay and on their current salaries
I hope it is nonsense. In the Chron Duff said his preferred formation was either 3-4-3 but more a 3-5-2 as he wants two centre forwards. With Morris and Woodrow up front and Aitchison in an attacking midfield role we have enough firepower to go back up. No point saving £400,000 on his wages if we have to spend that to replace him.
