Has us as his favourites for promotion from league one. Mainly down to us appointing Duff. He also thinks Ipswich, Wycombe Wednesday and MK Dons will be up there.
It always amazes me how these pundits make such bold claims as to what may materialise not only well before a ball is kicked, but well before a squad is finalised. I suspect he'll have had little thought as to the changes we're going to have to make and the key departures. I hope he's right of course, but he's never seemed the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Always thought lee hendrie had some sort of dislike towards us everytime i hear him commenting on our games i seem to get that from him.
There were a number of journalists who last season predicted promotion for Barnsley. I just thought it hilarious. People who know nowt paid to write how much they don't know. I know nowt either but at least I provide my services for free.
Way too early to put any predictions in place given the amount of personnel changes many teams will see.
I know we like to pitch ourselves as underdogs, but not sure about this. that suggests that more than half the teams in league are better equipped than us. not sure I agree with that. finishing outside the top half would be a very disappointing season IMO. top half absolute minimum for me, with top 6 a realistic target.
same here. Would be pleasantly surprised if we made the play offs as expecting a season of transition but bottom half would be very disappointing
For me, Hendrie & anyone else predicting a successful season for us can be placed in the same category as someone predicting a campaign of despair and possibly another relegation battle. At this point, we don't know how Michael Duff, the team (who will leave, who will come in) will do. Although, if we DO win promotion, there'll be some next Spring insisting it was expected and it's been the worst Division 1 on record!
I expect barnsley to be challenging top 6, I hope we're aiming for promotion, I hope with the good managerial appointment we've made and get our first settled xi looking good to go, I don't see why we can't go for it, that has to be our aim, If we finish below 10th or are nowhere near the top 6 I reckon it's a bad season.
After last season I'll be happy with top 10 and build a good foundation ready for the season after. Play offs and beat Wednesday in final would be perfect of course.
I think the play offs should be our tatget. the hardest thing is theres still some deadwood to shift and changing the loser mentally thats been here since schopp.
I’m still trying to fathom how the hell he approached this job (Schopp). If he took it and learned he couldn’t bring in his staff after , If he took it and knew he couldn’t bring in his staff . Imo he took it knowing he couldn’t work with his staff if that’s the case why didn’t he use the attitude of ok I’m out of my depth but I’m going to try and galvanise the players and motivate them ? It seems to me he just wanted the payoff from day one and on the basis he should never work in football again .
At this stage it is too early to predict what any team will do. There will be lots of comings and goings at all clubs I've the next few weeks and i don't think anyone can say who will finish where until the squads are more or less complete. Hell, the bookies have Derby as second or third favourites and they currently only have about 5 senior players!
I really want us to wind down our expectations and give some time to what will be a new squad, a new board & a new manager. Would be lovely if we kick back on from the off, but that might not be the case. It really depends on who we can afford to keep & how quick a new approach starts to work. Massive expectations are counter productive where we are at the moment financially & also in terms of restructuring the "plan", which clearly has not worked. Patience.
