The Athletic are doing a '50 Greatest Premier League Performances' countdown, and Redders' has just been announced at Number 40 for his performance at Liverpool.

He's above some pretty memorable stuff in the countdown so far - like Viduka scoring 4 against Liverpool, and Arshavin likewise.

    Nice to see some recognition.

I'd argue he was better in the home game against them.

Great stuff, and that wasn't even his best game that season! :)

So would I. The events of the day have overshadowed what was a quite phenomenal performance by Redfearn.

He was the best player on the park at Old Trafford the day that we were beaten 7-0. I'm convinced that if he played for any other Premier League team except for us tht season then he would have had an England call up.

He's my second favourite Red ever. Although I'd argue (cue abuse) after 30 years of the PL any of his performances that season can't possibly be in the top 50 of the league's history?!?

Kin ell. I can hear the pins getting pulled out as I type.

I agree with that to be honest - but some journos try to be a little cute when they do stuff like this. As I said, that Viduka performance against Liverpool was unbelievable and sticks in my memory so vividly, and that was ranked 44 I think.

Solskjaer scoring 4 times against Forest as a sub is also ranked below Redders. Be interesting to follow it moving forwards. I might even track them in this thread if I can be bothered.

I wouldn't have thought so either. He got a mention because, at the age of 32, in his first ever season in the Premier League, in Barnsley's first ever season in the Premier League, he played like he'd been there his entire career, scored some fabulous goals and ruffled the feathers of some very high profile managers as he had the audacity to tackle some of their prima Donnas, run up the field with the ball and stick it in the bottom corner. There were a lot of people, not just Barnsley fans, who liked seeing that.

For anyone who doesn't think experience is important or helps a team/player:

“I swivelled and just passed it into the corner,” Redfearn says. “I’d always been a goalscoring midfielder, but when I got into my 30s, that’s when the game really started making sense to me. The penny dropped. You mature as a player. You understand the game and, for me, that moment came just when I reached the highest level in league football. I was at the height of my powers.”

Am I imagining it or was us not hanging on to Redders the reason Wilson gave for taking the Wednesday job?

Sounds handy as an excuse after the event, but still shouldn’t have gone there.
