Harewood-Bellis on loan. England u21 captain. flipping beast. CJ Egan-Riley 4-year deal. England u19. Left-back. Someone I had hoped the CEO could get on loan for the left-back position. Be interesting in what they do. The Manchester City Chairman talks often about signing players at the right age. It looks like Vincent also wants to sign players at the right age. Burnley will smash it if they carry on in that pattern.
No experience Far too young. Need some older heads signed to replaced those gone/going. I can't see them going straight back up.
Over the last few years, your club has tried to sign players of the right age. In general. They might smash it, they might not. It's a fine balancing act, as your club has proven over the last few years.
You know, I think if Burnley had signed ronaldo and messi, hemsy wouldn't have bothered mentioning it, they're too old. Its strange he only mentions players under a certain age bracket... almost as if he has an agenda, and doesn't listen to the plethora of players and management citing how important experience is
What brought it to my attention was the left-back. As mentioned above he was one of the players I had looked at to cover the left-back position. I'll tell you another i'd like them to try, Thierry Small of Southampton. They've signed 3 players with an avg age of 20/21.
A lot of Stoke fans on their forums after seeing bellis play dont rate him as highly as was expected. A lot of individual mistakes they say, should have started their own contracted players. Sound's very familiar As for Egan Riley, his contract expired at City. So wouldn't have even able to loan him. I would have been very surprised if we got anywhere near him given his reputation
Id be very surprised if we got him on loan, unless as a squad player. We need our own contracted player there, at least one competent one, otherwise back to square one next season. He does seem to score a lot of goals in the youth set up for a wing back, so must like going forward. No idea whether they paid a fee for him from Everton or was just released, but i wouldn't mind him as back up, as long as it doesn't hinder someone coming in permanently
I would suggest of the three you mention, Harewood-Bellis is the best fit for men's football. The other two have made three cup appearances between them. Not suggesting they won't come good, but at that age you don't know if you are going to get the next Tammy Abraham or the next Alex Kiwomya. I'm really intrigued how you have formed an opinion of small based on two cup appearances - genuinely - not digging. We've had our fingers burnt with 19yo. The German kid was great, Kiwomya not so much. I'm glad the spredsheet has reverted to players a bit older than teens, who, more importantly have big Mister's games under their belt. And I also give not a flying fkc about Burnley.
I wouldn't worry about the age too much. Callum Doyle made the loan move to Sunderland at 17 last season and made 40 appearances in league and cup. Small made the switch to the south coast in an attempt to get first-team football from Everton so clearly thinks he's ready.
Yep, I get that. Just genuinely interested in Small particularly, and why 2 senior appearances in mens football would make him a "maximum impact" player for the Reds.
Is nothing from the past few years not ringing alarm bells though? We are a young enough team as it is. I'd rather a Matty James on loan than another Vita who takes months to get up to speed, if we're going down the loan avenue.
But unfortunately 90% of footballers don't happen to have fortune at that age like he did. There's a reason they're not just thrust in. They're eased in like Foden. Like we started doing with Palmer when he first joined, and moon under Val. Berahino was a revelation as a youngster, look how he turned out. Your mate Frimpong, an even better example
You see I wouldn't. I'd rather have a Josh Brownhill, Ben Pearson than James any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Remember the worst footballer to put Nike/Addidas/Puma boots on according to some on here were miles better 20/21 season than James. I'd prefer a Alfie Mawson to a Matt Mills.
Berahino. I'd have a listen to Ben Fosters Podcast on that one. think CEO of WBA went back on a promise with him.
Harewood-Bellis has some pedigree about him. 50 senior games under his belt already. The other lad is a prospect. Hard to judge when he's only played 3 senior games on his career, albeit for Man City. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not a bit part player initially, unless he's really good, in a Mason Mount/Phil Foden kind of way. Impossible to tell though really until he's played some pro games. Bit of a gamble.
Yes but you're wanting us to sign players on loan that have sometimes never played any competitive matches. It is too much of a gamble.
Kiwomya was scouted by Chelsea on the basis of his ability to run fast. It was a bit of a thing at that time. There was a theory that if you found an "athlete" with the correct build/ speed, you you mould them into whatever sport you wanted. I remember talent camps being held that NGBs of sport would combine at, and they try to cream off the best "athletes" for their sport. So in Kiwomya's case he could have ended up as a rugby player, a runner, a bob sleigh memeber etc. Not sure where he is now, but he clearly didn't cut it as a footballer.
