Duff spoke about the importance of them. New bloke Paterson also highlighted them. Seems like there'll be a big emphasis on them next season. Ours were abysmal last season.

Love a good one. For me they're as good as a team passing move and goal.

Hope they come to fruition. All depends on the delivery. Who at the moment would be key? Kane? Benson? Dependant upon selection. Be interesting to see.

As the team stands at the moment, we don’t have the big forwards to trouble defenders on the high balls, suppose the CB’s and Wolf can add height though. Set-pieces would have to be more on the ground type moves

Connell is a dead ball specialist by all accounts. As too is Cadden if the rumours are correct about us signing him.

    who for ?

The set pieces under Val were excellent. The corners were proper exciting.

I am delighted emphasis is being placed on them as they’re critical. One thing that amazes me in football is the amount of times players shoot badly from outside the box from a set piece. Benson is a prime example of this. He simply doesn’t have the talent to hit the target consistently, the ball just goes over. There’s potential for element of surprise for such free kicks yet players / teams persist with piss poor attempts from 25/30 yards with a very low success rate.

Wasn’t Murray given responsibility for set piece coaching? I’m sure I recall something about that

No, Adam Murray was the antichrist and spent all of his time making plans for a death star, or sumat.

Anybody remember the cross over throw ins involving Brian Joicey
That used to confuse defenders big time

Furthermore talking of set pieces I've a reply letter somewhere in the loft from the manager of the club at the time ...(John mcseveny I think it was ) thanking me for a letter that i submitted that contained numerous diagrams of set pieces which I sent in when I was a kid
I Remember sending it in, it was about 10 pages plus accompanying letter long can't for the life of me Remember the actual contents although I do remember most of it was about movement in the box both corners free kicks and yes throw inside lol wonder if he passed it on to Jim iley lol

Love the fact they are taking such an interest in them again. It is a fundamental part of the game for me that teams should be looking to master as it can win you so many points.

Under Val we seemed to have a bug focus on set plays and scored a lot from them from corners and long throws etc. Under Hecky with Conor in the side, we seemed to score a lot from corners too, including in the play off final.

It is a basic of football that many teams seem happy to neglect for some reason. Hopefully Duff, Paterson and co can put in the hours working on these and we can grab goals from them again.

Benson came as a set piece specialist but at times last season it looked like he had never taken one in his life.

All good unless we become on of those teams that are over reliant on them and have to dive their way to getting in good positions for set pieces.
