I remember being very surprised and excited when we signed Craig Hignett. What a player he was during the time he was with us.
I honestly think the poverty line will wear thin considering the personal wealth of those in charge of the club. I know they've put in £1 million this summer but it should have taken more than that considering they put us in this position in the first place. No better than the previous regime. Why not plug as much of the £8 million deficit as they could through "equity" and try and hang onto a couple of under contract players? I know I'm not over enamoured about losing Woodrow and Morris. However, that's a position they've decimated now. It needs serious attention, as does left back.
I trust Duff to get this right through his knowledge of League One. My top choice would be Sam Smith, who scored fifteen goals from thirty-four appearances for Cambridge United last season, but would involve a transfer fee. MKD were reportedly interested, but have said they are not. Duff knows him, as he was at Cheltenham on loan from, I think Reading, at some stage. His overall career shows 27 goals from 88 appearances, but several of those were initially as sub for various teams before he established himself last season in Cambridge's starting line-up. My top choice. In the loan market, I would expect that Duff might be looking at Callum Wright of Leicester, whom he had on loan at Cheltenham last season (37 appearances, six goals and also Kion Etete of Spurs, whom he also had on loan at Cheltenham last season (38 appearances, 9 goals for both Northampton Town and Cheltenham) - 6'6" striker - the new Kieffer Moore??? Those are my best touts. Oh, I don't forget Tony Scully at Lincoln. He seemed to fall out of favour last season for some reason, but looks a dynamic and pacy wide striker with an eye for goal and for making a goal. Duff''s preferred 352 system might not suit him, but I still rate him and he is still young. Former West Ham academy and it shows.
Mentioned Etete a few times in a few threads. He only has 1 year left on his deal. Maybe spurs could be tempted to sell him if they don't see a long term future for him there. If not a loan would be a cheaper option.
