Signed a two year deal to become DC United’s manager in the MLS. I have to say I’m surprised by that, I would have considered him a shoe for any new Championship job that comes up and a contender for some Premier League ones.
Was the job he did at Derby that remarkable though? He kept them up by the skin of their teeth the first season, and whilst they had a hefty points deduction in his second season, their league position without the deduction wouldn't really have justified the huge wage bill they had. I think he did an okay job at Derby in difficult circumstances, but whether that warranted him a decent job in the Championship, in not so sure.
For some money is everything. I'm sure he is getting paid handsomely. And a bit of sun for Colleen and the kids. Some people care about legacy, others follow the money.
I think you have to commend his time at Derby both on the touchline and off the pitch. His media was always good. He acted as liaison between players and board to try and solve financial issues. Results were decent under the circumstances. He could have walked straight into the Everton job but wanted to stay at DC. Fair play and good luck I say.
They had a supposed 5 senior players contracted when he left and wasn't able to assemble anything due to admin.
