I've just checked actually, he scored in the u16's, u18's and u23's last season, at 16 years old. 27 goals all in. And by the sounds, he's tipped for a move to the Premier League.
Fabio Jalo sounds a real prospect but we run the very big risk of losing him for next to nothing. At 16 he’s too young to tie down to a professional contract. It’s a long time since we produced a quality forward and now it looks like we’ve got a gem it would be a terrible blow for one of the big guns to pinch him on the cheap.
I know a man United scout that lives at darfield, he scouts in Chesterfield at under 16 level, he told me about fabio jalo about 2 years ago, he's seen him a few times and every time he's watched him he's always scored a couple of goals including 2 hatricks, reckons he's best prospect we've got, so I am not surprised that his name is starting to get mentioned, I haven't seen him play personally but I reckon big clubs already know about him.
Was that the Centre mid that stuck to the left side? if so Ackroyd and yes agree he was the other player i'd pick out behind the very impressive Fabio Jalo. !6 year old. also the replacement lwb looked to have promise.
No it was a lad that came on in the second half and played behind the strikers. He did a couple of nice flicks and smashed the crossbar with a shot near the end
Sure this is the lad Bobby gave an interview on last season saying he’s the brightest prospect he’s seen at our academy or something along those lines.
Just got to hope we keep him long enough to see a little of that talent, and when we inevitably sell, get a hugeeee sell on clause!
Yeah he mentioned letting it be known to his parents that here is the best place for him, which I agree with. The way he's banging them in he will be having regular first team Football here shortly and then that would put him in a much better position like it did Stones, Holgate and many more. The alternative is he joins a Premier League side which would be way harder to get noticed and get game time with the number of players they hoard. Then more than likely end up released and slip down the leagues or out of the game completely like the vast majority do.
I completely agree and the sentiments are right... Unfortunately, when a 'big' club comes in and offers him 10k a week after 6 first team appearances at 17, offers to look after his mam and dad with a right nice house in the area, and on a lengthy contract, understandably it'll be very hard to turn down
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2022/april/jalo-apots/ https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/barnsley-aiming-to-fend-off-premier-league-interest-in-player/ Hopefully when he's old enough we can get him to sign his first professional contract with us. It will be a tough ask.
With him being 16 can't he sign a pre-contract? Perhaps with the permission of his parents? So as soon as he turns 17 it'll come into fruition? Didn't Odegaard do similar when he was 15 before he went Madrid?
This is the problem with football. Premier league teams can chuck 100k at a young lad , if he don't make it that's peanuts to them. And there's so much pressure on the lad to make it. I beleive Stonesy and Holgate got it bang on in learning their trade at Tarn.
