We've consulted with the family, and were given the green light to include Norman in the voting process.
They do. That's why it's never happened before. I know his grandsons personally. He was against it whilst still with us.
Why not call it "The Ponty End"? I don't like naming stands after people, there are only 4 stands but many candidates.
My personal preference would simply be the Ponty End. However, I would be very happy with any of the choices put forward. If I had to make a choice, it'd be Eric Winstanley.
People say that footballs boring Ronnie Glavins always scoring Can you hear the Ronnie Glavin Stand roaring
Voted Rimmo now the family have given permission. All those players have given Barnsley fans immense pleasure. But it has to be Mr Barnsley fc. And I reckon those others nominated would approve /would have approved.
Why do the club insist on calling it the south stand at all? It isn't it's name except to people so far detached from the average fan that they make public relations **** ups more regularly than the Tories lie. The ck Beckett ponty end is what it should currently be called, the Norman rimmington (for example (ponty end is what it should be changed to. We play at Oakwell, sit in the ponty end and the academy play on the academy pitch. We do t play at grove Street, sit in the south stand and play on the showcase pitch. When the club keeps making these **** ups all it does it seems false and forced and like they're deliberately trying to alienate fans from Oakwell and break the connection between club and ground.
I’d have gone Redders, but Eric would be a close 2nd. I personally find the Taylor inclusion a bit odd in the way that it feels like cultural appropriation from another clubs legend…. Despite him being home grown obviously and full of so much potential.
You seriously think this alienates the fans. gior. And gi thi ed a shek. It's still called Oakwell stadium. Many clubs change the stadium name. I don't think anyone gets into bed over it. If they want to use the term Grove st. It has little consequence. I've allus called south stand the ponty. Everyone knows what you mean. Even after several sponsors. And call the North/Barry Murphy stand. The away end.
Judging by the many negative comments about grove Street that I've heard on here, on other social media and at the ground I'd say that yeah it does alienate fans a little when the club keeps calling oakwell grove Street. Same when they're told they're sitting in the south stand. Neither of them on their own are massive but it's the little things like this that make differences to people's subconscious thoughts about the club and the emotional connection they have to the stadium and therefore the club. To give an example, if the club stopped using players names and just referred to them as number 3 6 or 28 there wouldn't be the automatic connection that there is. Also I think the fact that you say regardless of the club insisting on saying south stand it's the Ponty End to you and Regardless of the club calling oakwell grove Street it's oakwell just shows that you have no connection with the words the club uses. To such an extent that they use one term and you use a completely different one. One that's used by the entire fanbase. Common sense tells me which phrase and names the club should use, it's the ones the customers use.
