Grove Street conspiraacy stuff isn't your fault YT - I think just the rumours around playing elsewhere at a similar time it just made people's imaginations run away! In ordinary times nobody would've noticed
For what it's worth, then I reckon it should be as follows: North Stand, Barry Murphy (as per) Ponty End, Ronnie Glavin (obvious reasons, can you hear the ponty roaring) East Stand, Eric Winstanley (Tower of man, largest stand) West Stand, Norman Rimmington (his favourite to watch the games from)
Such a hard choice.Glavin the greatest ever reds player,Eric my first reds hero,Redders our Premiership hero,Norman mr reliable and Tommy who if he'd have lived would possibly been the England record goal scorer. Then you've Rev.Preedy and not forgetting the "man who saved us" Mr Cryne. I need to get my head round it more.Good work from the club though.
I've gone for Eric. I don't see an issue with this personally. If it was 'choose your favourite sponsor' I would, but not club legends. I will still refer to it as the Ponty End but it will have a club legend's name on the top, and on the tickets/website etc. It's a win-win for me. It's like the South Stand, formally it was known as that (on all reference points) but I called it the Ponty. Surely it's better to have one of the five than the 'South Stand?' And you can still call it the Ponty, nobody has you over a barrel. I've gone for Eric for his contribution to the greatest day of my youth, to that team, and to getting us to the promised land. I could have voted for Redders for the same reason, but Eric was Barnsley through and through.
The best post yet in terms of the efforts being made to reconnect the club with the community. the cynic in me tells me it will not go without criticism on here. c'est la vie.
I think that is spot on. Add to that a suite or the training ground or something named after Redders and it’s nailed it if you ask me.
As much as I appreciate the wonderful moments Glav and Redders gave us, surely Oakwell should be synonymous with local legends?
