I don’t know why she wants to know this but she does.

“Is there a technical term for a piece of coal?”

My old man was a ripper and he only talked about ‘lumps’ of coal. Like most people do.

But is there a technical term?

Think I've heard it referred to as black gold. But then again my memory might be playing tricks.
But technical name. IS "a lump o' coyl " :)

You'd have to be a right daft lump not to know the answer to this one.

There are are a few terms of stages for coals development starting with plant tissue and ending in anthracite.

So, anthracite would be the most commonly accepted term

Thanks for your help. I will pass all this onto Mrs Statis, although why she wants to know I don't know.

My front runner is 'anthracite' from x11barnsley. I think she'll like nugget, coblin and sleck (or should that be slack?)
