IMG_20220719_165335859~2.jpg I've got that mug somewhere. Also got these 4 coasters that my wife bought me for £20 from a shop in Ludlow of all places - they had sets for all premier/championship clubs at the time. They're a bit battered now :)

I’ve also got similar coasters but mine depict old United programs.

I've got the same four coasters. They were given as a present from work colleagues about five years ago (bought new online) so they're definitely not worth taking onto Antiques Roadshow! If you look at the Chesterfield one from 1971 it has a typo on it - 'Barnsley Club Football' instead of 'Barnsley Football Club', which I didn't spot for about a year!

I think we won the game 2-0, if my memory serves me correctly, but I can't remember the scorers. We finished the season mid table.

Yes, as I said at same time, it was the Luton win.
I’ve seen the photo of the number 10 on the programme cover when we played Everton in the cup about a year later (62)

back in the late. 1960s after the Dennis/Buckle takeover. Mascots were very popular. We had Toby. The club used to sell "Toby Tyke was here" stickers. I remember a geography field trip to Barmouth, Wales where we plastered stickers all round the "town". Sheffield United's mascot was Bertie Blade whilst Ossie Owl was the Wednesday Mascot. I can't recall the Rotherham mascot of the time but in the late 1990s they has a Dusty Miller.

definitely not Dick Hewitt. Judging from the crowd, I would suggest the picture was taken in either the 1961 cup run v Leicester or the 1964 cup run v Manchester United. In which case the forward is either Ken Oliver or George Kerr.

My understanding on the 3:15 KO is related to the closing time of local pubs which was 3pm in Barnsley. A late decision to attend the football could the be delayed until the 10 minutes "sipping up time". The 3pm closing time was probably related to the day shift not finishing until 2pm giving a thirsty collier the chance to wash the coal dust out of his throat.

The photo appeared on the cover of a programme for a FA cup game against Everton 62/63 3rd round.
It therefore seems logical that it was from the game against Luton the previous season, the result of which took us to quarter final

I have a Barnsley v Leeds programme from my first match, as a 6 year old, in August 1955. That programme cost 3d. You'd have got 80 programmes for a quid. We won 2-1.
Leeds legend, John Charles, was playing for them. He moved to Juventus later for an enormous fee if £65000. It cost me and my elder brother 1 shilling each to stand by the wall in the terrace, near to the tunnel.

First editions of the Green 'Un didn't have our result in, because of that.

There once was an old mug in Perth
And nobody knew its true worth
    Asked Ian to Dawson
    Is that Alfie Mawson?
But Stephen said "look at my girth".

(it got a bit tricky at the end)

I'm pretty certain it's Ken Oliver He was a superb header of the ball, despite being only about 5 ft 10 ins tall. He scored our goal in front of 39,250 in the 1961 6th round replay v Leicester at Oakwell on a Wednesday afternoon.
