Lost over £12m over the years leading up to the accounts prior, relying on generous owners to keep the club going - £7.8m of borrowings with £6.8m from the directors. Interest free, but still a debt. Their bank loans have been guaranteed by directors which they were paying back £350k a year.
I'm all for using the kids as back up which also gives them their first steps into mens football but we need to remember that a fair few of our squad were signed to play in the championship and it's these players that need to step up and prove their worth next season. Mads, Kitching, Odour, Thomas,Kane, Benson, Cole, Iseka all have points to prove.
Depends on how it would be sold. If we came out and said that with relegation looking very likely and we were selling him at that time to protect the future meaning that if we got relegated we would be able to keep the nucleus of the team together and say investing 500k on a replacement i and many others would have thought that reasonable. We would then have been able to wait for offers for Styles and Helik with a bit more breathing space.
Maybe that would be the response from the minority. But the majority and most vocal would have criticised the club for giving up on staying in the Championship.
Players should be sold for a little bit more than they're worth, so your own club gets good dollar and invest it wisely that's what posh do, barnsley seem to drop there knickers as soon as a tenner comes in And that extra money should be enough to tell the next player to shut the f*** up your staying until you get more money than the next players worth.
Well not great obviously, but I didn't understand the relevance of the question in relation to my post; apologies if I'm being daft!
I agree, you can't get rid of the crap ones unless you pay them to go, not many players take pay cuts willingly.
Have you got some links to that? Not saying it’s incorrect I could only find reference to outstanding loans of 6.8 million interest free loans from directors but a healthy cash balance circa 4million to in part ameliorate that. Did we not also have a cash injection from our owners and are we not servicing debt? Though of course with no cash reserves we are in a much more precarious position.
replacement 50ok striker scores twice on debut. No one would have cared. It’s about having replacements lined up who you think can hit the ground running. When they flogged Toney they signed Smodicz and he will be the next out of the door but I bet they have a replacement already lined up.
Sorry - I don’t particularly have a lot of time for Peterborough so it’s more me being critical of them than defending us! We’re handing out all this praise for Peterborough for rejecting bids, but if we thought that 9 goals a season Morris was worth £3m then I’m not sure selling your star striker in January for £2.75m and accepting relegation is good business on their part.
We’ve got the EFL loan and the £1m injection promise, which I assumed has happened. I also read that that was being injected as a shares issue so it would dilute the holding of other shareholders if they didn’t match it? That might have been a comment on here though rather than anything official. Same source as you just years earlier.
But if we give a £100k value player away for free… it’s better than losing a Morris for £900k? And we get them off the books.
I'd love to think that the players you've listed do have "points to prove" and will excel in league one whilst proving them, but I doubt I'm alone in suspecting that many of them just don't have the ability or character to be good football players. That said, I'd have said the same of Thiam when we got relegated last time and he did very well in league 1, so I'll give them all a chance if they're still here. I'm not saying I want a team full of (even younger) kids who are starting out, my point is that if that's what we end up with, it's a) because we signed a squad full of duffers and b) I won't be a hypocrite and slag the club off for having to replace that squad full of duffers with the bulk of the u23 side.
I'm always hopeful going into a new season and don't see any reason why we can't at least compete in League 1, hopefully we'll be surprised by a few players that have probably been written off based on last season and I'm sure Duff will sign/loan a few more so I really can't see us playing the u23s.
And of course there are only 2 options, sell all our best players and fill the squad with free transfers that are bang average at best or spend shed loads of cash and bring us to the brink of bankruptcy.... nothing at all in between, gotta be one or the other.
Drivel. What do you do? Are you a successful entrepreneur or creative genius, perhaps? Such enlightened and "informed" insight into BFC suggests you might be one of these. I trust therefore, no error or mistake has ever blighted your existence. Please be our Saviour and run the club. Seems like you have a mighty fan base.
