Set me off thinking back to when we played them on the opening day of the season in about 1991. What sticks out in my memory from that day was Dwight Marshall for them, and a handful of Tarn fans sleeping on the terraces for most of the match cos they were hammered! FA Cup game in '94 saw us take a couple of thousand down there. 79/80 was when we offered an apology to their mayor following a few incidents pre-match. And the following season was memorable for the special. Absolute pig of a journey coming home; we seemed to be stuck outside Birmingham for an eternity! Cracking 3-1 win mind. Anyone any other memories?
Love the story of the hammered reds fans sleeping on the terraces My one and only visit to Home Park not so exciting, 1st March 2003. 1-1 draw with a Bruce Dyer equalizer. Don't remember much other than the long journey, and walking up to the ground from where we'd parked. And being in the ground. I don't think we were very good then, the likes of Donovan, Gary Jones, Mitch Ward and Kev Betsy gracing the first team. The year we finished 6th bottom of the old Division 2 (League One), Isaiah Rankin keeping us up with his winner four minutes into stoppage time against Brentford at home. 13 wins in 46 games.
Ended up queuing late for Liverpool tickets back in 2008 and they’d sold out by midday (think we were selling 4 per ST holder bizarrely) so ended up going down to Plymouth mid week as it was the game sandwiched in between. Lost 3-0 in a 12 hour round trip. Won’t be entering Plymouth ever again
March 2007, a half days work and a midweek run down to the South Coast from London; Stan & Rajczi ripping it up, the start of our survival run and a cracking goal from Disco! ️ (one of his own favourites too) as part of a brace in a 4-2 win.
October 1980 and a 3-1 win after going behind. A great day out on the old football special. Left about 7 in the morning and got back around 11pm. Happy memories….
Aug 91, I’d travelled home from Portsmouth on the Friday, went around Swinton until closing followed by a house party, mini bus picked us up at 7am I think…M5 jammed all the way down, crap match, stopped off in ivybridge after the match though for a few beers.. which turned into several. got back about 3am I think… She was a long old day!
Went to the FA Cup game. I think Taggart equalised in 2-2 draw? There and back in the day. Must have been utterly crackers.
We were in the home end of the ground for the cup game was it 1994 ,couldn't get tickets in the away end. Remember us losing Iley out iley out. Think it may have been post Machin not sure. It seems like centuries ago. Enjoyed the stop over in Jamaica Inn. Parrot telling old ladies to **** off.
Who can remember the last game of the season under Davey to stay up? 1-0 down. Hammill goal right on half-time and then JCR goal at the start of tue 2nd half to calm the nerves… 1-2 win.
I remember disco scoring one from the half way line about 15 year ago in off the crossbar was a screamer
Was at that, whilst doing a stint at Ginsters. Mega goal, and best performance I saw under Davey. Good night in the hotel in Tavistock too after IIRC. Also went a few seasons back, last away game of season in the sun, promotion all but confirmed. Mowett decent free kick, great away following
