If this is true, it is equally amazing and frightening! BBC News - Blake Lemoine: Google fires engineer who said AI tech has feelings https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-62275326 Have a read of the purported discussions: https://cajundiscordian.medium.com/is-lamda-sentient-an-interview-ea64d916d917 If it isn't true, it is only a matter of time.
Interesting stuff. Personally, not buying it. And don't want to buy it. I'd sooner preserve the mystery of human consciousness and perhaps at least leave open the possibility that we are something more than a biological computer. Personally find it depressing to consider that we are all just brains in meat suits with no agency. We seem to be more than that, but what that is, not sure. Interesting stuff this AI but it's dangers I think are overblown.
I mostly agree, and it looks like it has been met with skepticism from the science community, but I disagree with your last sentence.
We could be masters of our own demise with it and create the very things that will replace us. Elon has said pretty much the same thing. We need to be careful a d make sure they have an off switch
Adding to the above, I guess my train of thought goes to, "why would he make it up?" I mean, of course there's the attention from doing so and making a name for yourself, but that won't last long. It is a risky move for your credibility and long term livelihood. Whilst I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories I think we should be more wary of huge companies such as Google too.
I don't think he has made it up. I think he believes the AI is sentient. But that doesn't mean he's right. And the AI claiming it's sentient doesn't mean it is. The dialogue between the two of them is fascinating. But there's something wrong with the AI's responses. I don't exactly know what it is or how to explain it, but I can feel it. Something just isn't right. +Edit - Having said that, if you asked me to switch it off, like I switch my phone or PC off, I don't know if I could easily do it.
Yeah I'm not convinced. I just thought it was really interesting and the stories it concocted to prove sentience were quite clever. I'm not sure what to think. I honestly think we are years rather than decades away from this at most, though. I also think we are too arrogant in believing we are unique and unable to be replicated synthetically like this. It may take more time, but it will happen.
Wow that interview is really something. Where will we be in another 10/20 years? It's both exciting and terrifying.
