Hard to beat

My first preseason friendly today and what a transformation Duff has made.

We looked organised, strong defensively, midfield working well. Young talent in Aitchison and Marsh.

Connell is my new favourite player, him sat infront of that defence no ones getting through.

I was very impressed and its obvious that there is more to come.

A midfielder who protects the back four is something we've been missing for years

 

Really looking forward to seeing this lad play.

 

Me too! There's been nothing but rave reviews about him so far.

 

Connell looks ace and he'll only get better, also Benson could turn into the player that we hoped he'd be, I was one that's knocking him aswell, all reds players did really well today and they've got me looking forward to the new season thank god.

 

I thought that I didn't think we will create so much this season.

A little bit concerned about how they pulled us from left to right in the second half and something reams will look to do every game this season.

I don't like the defence balance with the back 3. The outside CB's are asked to play like Full backs on the ball at times and it just doesn't suit Anderson at all. Kitchings fine with it though.

Cundy. You can see it with him. He isn't it and again it showed today. Ditch him and put someone in at RCB and move Anderson across if Helik's on the move. Cadden. Positioning again. Liam Kitching needs to be telling him. 20 yards out of position every time and it will cost us goals so get your body back in line.

Duff can't be happy with any of the strikers today. JN. 30 minutes on the pitch. did he touch the ball once. Goodness me.

We need to get the balance right in midfield. Connell looks very good so far. Josh Bensons, Josh Benson. A very talented. lad.

 

Brilliant how a win lifts the spirits, that's why it's imperative we get off to a good start and there's no reason why we shouldn't.

 

We've got a lot of players that were signed for the championship and there's no reason why they can't come good in League 1, we just need to get behind them until their confidence grows.
People that were moaning about Cole after 30 minutes today need to get a grip of where we are.

Why do some on here once again take criticism of certain footballers, yes that's fine but oh no you can't say that about him.

What has he been doing? Did he retire from football when leaving Portman road because that picture on the official club website looks awful on him?

I watched on SUTV today Marc so I did so without notice from Barnsley fans. It was quite different for me to watch a game at oakwell via a screen with fans in the stadium.

What it did was allow me to listen to what the sheff U comms teams were saying (they couldn't understand a 343 formation) but also just concentrate on what was going off in a strange way.

I found myself pleased with some things and displeased with others. Basic things sometimes.

I've never got the be pleased we won because performance over results normally will be better over the season.

Criticism is fine Hemsy. Criticism based on absolute bullox like yours is the problem. Sheffield united will be around the play offs in a league above. Cadden will be caught out at times, do you want to know why? Because it's based on risk and reward. He scored & assisted plenty last season - because he plays high up. There will be teams what get in behind because we play him high, same at the other side. That's why theres 3 centre halves, try and offset some of that risk, double up when Cadden (I know youre just nit picking him because of where he (or more probable, where he didnt) play before us) is caught out and gives him time to get back (or if they win the ball, he's already in an attacking position). There will be times when the 3 CB's aren't always brilliant together, that's why friendlies are important, more game time they'll learn to play with each other whilst getting match fit. Whether you like it or not, Norwood's record at this level and below is very good in terms of goals/per game. I noticed you picked out Benson for praise, and whilst I agree he performed well, let us be honest as to why you picked him; the academy he came from.

I'm no expert - I still don't understand tactics - but i do know a good player when I see one.

Jordan Williams let me down today on that score though cos i think that he's our most valuable player. Today he was our worst - he's a bit like Winnall in that he needs to get up to speed.

The rest - apart from Helik when he came on - are going to be bang div 1 average. We'll score nowt and probably have the tightest defence.

Styles doesn't have an obvious place in any particular buying team. We don't have a place for him either.

Do we just happen to have the most pessimistic, fickle fans in English football?

 

I really hope Williams isn't considered first choice this season. Should probably have left with his namesake.
