Great finish to be fair, considering it came from a mistake by the Utd goalkeeper. He drop kicked the ball straight at his centre half, it broke to Aitchison who manouvered onto his left and blasted it through the covering defenders into the net.
It was evident from the highlights that we didn't create many chances again, presuming the highlights package from Sheff Utd is unbiased. For me, 352 is going to be the way to go, if we're going to play with a dedicated DCM. The jury's still out on Benson for me, but if he's working with a coach he knows, then who knows how he will develop. I recall my first impression being of him, that he was a very talented footballer. That being said, yesterday will have been a game where the opposition simply had a more talented and experienced midfield. The Sheff Utd fans themselves can't believe Sander Berge is still playing for them. Whilst we're reasonably tight at the back, we did give up quite a few clear chances. The goal could have been avoided by better positioning on Cundy's part, and could easily have resulted in a penalty too. They also hit the post twice, and should really have scored when Kitchen made a last ditch interception. But credit where its due, we didn't just give up like we often did last season when going behind, and whilst the first goal was a little fortunate, and the second from a soft free kick, we must have shown good character to come back.
I certainly didn’t feel like Sheff Utd had that many chances yesterday whilst watching the game. and the only real save either goalkeeper had to make was from Benson’s first free kick.
The highlights definitely suggest that United dominated but I know that can be misleading. Two great goals for us. A real poacher’s effort from Aitchison - great awareness to latch onto that mistake and a fine finish. Benson’s (whisper it) was Hourihane-esque! I wonder if he can do that again?
Can’t read too much into it because it’s edited for Utd fans consumption. In fact apart from our two goals I don’t think it showed much, if anything else of us going forward.
Having watched our own highlights package, whilst we had a few forays into their area, there aren't many chances (if any) missing from the Sheff Utd package.
I watched 1st half from a bar in Spain.it looked like a blades tv feed. But the score at the top said BUR v SHU…. Couldn’t decide if it was a genuine error or pish take.
Yeah they undoubtedly had the lion’s share of the possession but the video doesn’t even show the foul which led to Benson’s free kick. Not that it matters, I’m happy to see both our goals
Whilst taking all this into consideration, and rightly so, they finished in the play off last season, and yesterday Berge & Brewster cost almost 50 million pounds combined, thats just 2 of their players starting yesterday. We need to improve in areas, and we will, I have total faith in Duff for that. Very confident we will be adding players over the coming weeks too All positives from me so far.
Benson took two free kicks. One palmed away, the other was in the onion bag. Thought he was good for 3-4 games early season & lost it badly. We had two dire coaches last season. Early yet, but lets give him a chance.
