Millie Bright is an absolutely fantastic footballer to watch. She's a brilliant defender, but physically looks as though being a bruising centre half should be her be all and end all. But the way she brings the ball out of defence and her passing range are simply sensational. A proper Rolls-Royce of a player.

They'd need to start gozzing more; and falling down whenever an opponent gets within 3 yards of them (though Spain are closing in on the "men" for that side of the game).

I've watched the goals several times, trying to decide how much the goalkeeping is to blame. The first one would have beaten many professional male keepers, an absolutely brilliant strike. As for the second - conceding a header from that distance is always questionable, but to give the keeper the benefit of the doubt, the ball was always moving away from her, and it came through a massive crowd of players including through two people's legs. So while she'll probably think she should have made a better attempt, it would have taken a very good save to have kept it out. Goal number 3 - a very good save from the initial shot. The second effort went through her legs, but how in the world could anyone have expected Russo to shoot? The fourth - pretty woeful keeping, but the game was already over, and I've seen plenty of men flap at the ball like that in the professional game.

No she wouldn't, though we've definitely had many worse footballers.
Having watched a fair bit of this tournament I will say the woman's game doesn't seem to have the same level of play acting and diving ect. Which is very refreshing to see.

not a fan of threads like this. I know the op is well intended, but all it does is for me is drag up 'are women as good as men at football'. and to some, just 'are women as good as men'. wish people could just celebrate the women's game on its own merit, without dragging blokes into it. they don't need to be compared against men.

I've never watched a women's football game before until last night and the main thing I took from it was the lack of play acting, histrionics, spitting, arguing.
The actual football was good, clean and fair.
Yes it puts the men's game to shame, as we shall no doubt witness from this weekend onwards.

The only time I've seen in the games I've watched was the Spain game vs us where the sub goalie was getting a bit antsy but was soon put in place by the ref

To be honest it won't be long before the mens' bad habits set in. The England keeper was collapsing to the ground every time she caught the ball to waste time including with thirty seconds left of injury time and her team 4-0 up.

I suspect you’re probably right, sadly. As more money comes into the game, and the size of the prize gets bigger, the fine margins between success and failure will start to shrink. When people start hunting for any possible competitive advantage, you just know that’s when ‘gamesmanship’ starts to creep in. AKA ‘cheating’.

Aye, it’ll be coming. “She had every right to go down, a cleverly earned penalty”.

Stephen Warnock was already making such allusions on Five Live against Spain. Not cool.
