Probably not but whats that got to do with anything they are almost certainly bigger stronger and faster - more debatable though is whether they are as good to watch. You dont watch a Womens Olympic 100m final and say its rubbish as none of the women would even get out of the first heat in the mens race I do wonder if in one or 2 positions a woman would be able to hold her own in a mens football team though. The French have a winger called Delphine Cascarino who is faster than most of the other women and can put in a great cross with either foot. Its not implausible that someone like that could hold her own in a mens team but in general lack of size and strength will be too much of a disadvantage
No they wouldn't, the physicality would be far too much for the ladies playing a whole team of men. I reckon some of the players could play in a men's team and shine with the right training, especially in a less physical role. I'm thinking Beth Mead with her skills probably wouldn't look out of place. But someone like Millie Bright, brilliant as she is, would not be much of a physical presence when marking someone like Big Vic, even if she's probably a technically better player.
Completely agree. As I alluded to in another post, Millie Bright is a far better footballer than Barry Conlon ever was, but it would be a pretty unfair clash if they were ever to meet in some sort of fantasy football match. Barry would just smash her to pieces.
Fantastic last night after a shaky start. We seem to get stronger as the game goes on. The technical ability in the women's game has improved no end over the past few years and it is quality entertainment. All this men Vs women isn't created by the players it's the media who stir up silly comments with their comparisons to male players. The two are worlds apart, much like most sports. Treat it as a different sport and appreciate it. I don't think it's been mentioned but Kiera Walsh...superb player, never wastes a pass and to me player of the tournament by far .
Who we going for tonight? I haven't seen any of the 2 teams games so don't know who is the better but on paper they seem quite even. It's basically who do we want in the final.
I'd be interested to see if Germany keep pressing after 60mins. We struggled against Spain but they seemed to drop off and we took advantage
So it’s the Germans then. Based on tonight’s game I’d have preferred France and it could have gone either way but the Germans have that knack of winning and are far more clinical in front of goal. It’s going to be tough on Sunday but we have a decent chance as long as it doesn’t go to penalties
Where is my chauvinism? I watched the game last night and cheered as loud as anyone when we scored and nothing will give me greater pleasure than watching us lift the trophy on Sunday( other than watching Barnsley win on Saturday) I'm just saying that as good as the Lionesses are technically and as fit as they are they still could not compete against fit, equally well coached young men? No one has criticised Tom Harban for saying our u23s couldn't compete with battle hardened experienced bigger players from Ossett and that is the same comparison I'm making. Sexism/ chauvinism does not come into the argument.
