Yes it's called the glass works . Great food and drinks there ! when the bridge is finally opened it will be used more I bet
The old grove Street school site that is sat empty and overgrown is owned by Barnsley sponsor bapps for bolts I believe. Perfect site for a full size and much more permanent fanzone and catering area
No, I presume it is warmer and drier than outside. I was responding to someone in the thread who felt the 'pop up catering',wouldn't work in the winter months. I don't know if temporary heaters could be used safely?
Containers, temporary heaters etc - grim. Might as well stay in s nice warm pub or cafe until kick off.
Sort of. This was outside my previous client's offices in Canary Wharf. https://640east.co.uk/ It's made up of two rows of containers with a sort of courtyard in the middle. Bars on one side and a cafe on the other. In winter they have a roof that goes between the two containers and heaters. Gets used all year round and is not at all grim (there's with some temporary sides that go onto the roof. Theres loads of competition around there for bars but it was always busy after work.) Spark York that was mentioned and @ark104 (v2) was involved in is a whole other level, but that puts on a roof in winter also and has heaters and is pleasant in winter. Spark york. The last photo shows the winter roof
Cheers mate, great shout out for Spark. We've just extended it for a few more years too. One of my last acts as Head of Regeneration and Economy before I leave for Durham County Council next week. Will still just be round the corner from where I live though.
Cheers mate, gutted to leave York but a big step up for me in a huge authority with a diverse economy. We've pushed my job hard in recruitment channels so hopefully someone with the same passion for the city and lots more things like Spark and Brew York. I need to shut up telling people about Skosh though, it's impossible to get a booking now!
Even on a much smaller scale, this kind of thing is not feasible for 3 hours a week for 9 months of the year.
@ark104 (v2) absolutely love Spark mate, it’s one of our go to places every time we go to York, brilliant place, good luck on your new job pal
The thing that gets me, there are football clubs all over the world that serve food to their fans in and around their grounds. They've been doing it for years, decades. They might even be making money at it. Some of these clubs are way bigger than us, some are comparable, some are smaller. I believe my local non league club sell pieminster pies and burgers from the local butcher and knock out beer from a local brewery. There are places up and down the country that have temporary/pop up facilities and seem to get by. A few weeks ago we did a London walk that took in Deptford. We wandered past a place we'd never heard of (and I can't recall it's name off hand) and there were 3 containers open for food and a wooden bar with 5 or 6 taps. Different challenges for a possible mass surge at key intervals, of course, but we can't say it's impossible to serve edible food at a football club on matchday. If we can't be arsed with the faff, fine, outsource it again or just lean on food businesses on the periphery of Oakwell. But I don't understand how it's so common (to varying standards) across the world, yet we can't do something that's far better than what we've mustered so far.
