New Signing ?

Yes & played with Worsboro bridge as did for the older ones amongst us Peter Graham ,who also was a decent striker .

Explains why that Ramsay hasn’t signed then, have you any idea why this Tedic signing is seemingly taking a while to complete?

 

I remember that Pete Graham scored pretty much a goal-a-game in the reserves against some pretty handy reserve teams, but the only goal I saw him score for us was in the Hallamshire Cup tie with Sheffield United at Oakwell, which ended 1-1 thanks to a blockbuster from the halfway line from 'Tank' Alan Birchenall. He did score twice in a 4-3 cup win at York, but I didn't see that. He was allowed to leave to join Darlington and then went to Lincoln City, for both of whom he was a regular scorer. Some just slip through our fingers, don't they?

 

My favourite memory of Mick was that he suffered two broken legs in one season, which kept him out for ages. He came back at Oakwell against Bradford City and was granted the last fifteen minutes as a sub with the score 0-2 to the Bantams. It finished 2-2 and Mick scored both the goals. No need for a warm-up period for Mick, who always looked like a somewhat undernourished Rock Star with his shoulder-length hair. A Jim Iley find who played as an amateur for us initially - don't malign Jim too much - he uncovered some good local talent including Anton Otulakowski from Ossett Albion amongst others.

 

He must be properly knackered if he failed the same medical that Oulare passed. I can't remember anyone else failing a medical here, didn't we sign Richard Kell with 2 broken legs?

 

I feel pretty sure that Tedic is the player in the phantom photo shoot the other day and not George Hirst. If Tedic does sign, I think we will still need another striker who would be likely to get somewhere near twenty goals in the season. I hope that we might generate the cash to bring in someone of the calibre of Hirst, or Sam Smith. Tedic looks to be more of a Trevor Aylott, so might benefit the likes of Aitchison, Marsh, Leya Iseka - let's hope so. We're not the only team having trouble recruiting. Hardly any transfers going through today. Maybe it will all take off towards the end of August, by which time I would hope that Duff has managed to assemble a well-structured side with cover in all positions.

 

That was the 1974/75 season. Mick had his leg broken and returned for the Bradford City match. We were losing 1-0 and Mick came on as a second half substitute. He scored twice to put us 2-1 up, before Bradford scored a late equaliser. Mick continued his scoring exploits, including two successive hat tricks (away at Newport in a 4-3 victory and in the next game, a 5-3 home win over Rochdale). Sadly, Mick broke his leg again that campaign for a second time in a match at Workington. We won 2-1, with Peter Price and Mick scoring the goals, the only time that they managed that in the same game.
At the start of the following season, Mick was fit to play. We beat Watford 1-0 on the opening day and our goal was scored by Mick Butler.
Oh, and it was Johnny Steele who brought Mick to Barnsley during his role as caretaker manager, not Jim Iley.

 

Has there ever been a longer thread for a new signing that hasn't actually signed?

 

I hope that someone's already done the "throwing the contractual Tedic" out of the pram jokes.

He's got one of those fab names for a numberplate - TED1C

He's got one of those chances to blow his wages to the sky - elsewhere of course - if he does well for us.

Trevor Aylott was no goalscoring machine Shipperley neither. We need goals though whether TAD1C is making them or scoring them. The present lot are not good enough.

 

Remember it well that Bradford game. Also remember one of tabloid newspapers (Sun or Mirror) doing a piece on him detailing all his injuries. He used to take some serious hammer off some brutal defenders back then. Didn’t he once score 3 successive hat tricks too or is my memory playing up?

Yep that’s reight, seem to remember Brian Howard signed the same time as him, he was also injured. Can vividly remember the pic of pair of them with crutches both also holding either shirts or club scarves in The Chronicle.

Sounding like the player from last week isn’t joining now, if this one we’re linked this week doesn’t end up signing this thread will end up being the most pointless thread of all time!

Tbf it beats countless thread after thread about politics, come on here to escape that sh’t!

 

Imagine if we went looking local now for a player. Let's see - who's any good at Penistone Church, Athersley etc? Mick was a Worsborough Bridge player of course and had no right to be a good forward with his slight physique. But he WAS good, and some! Admittedly we were in the Fourth Division at the time and he might not have been so successful for us had we been the league above, or two even. My only regret is that, alongside that other great forward Brian Joicey, I missed so many of their matches due to being exiled down in Wiltshire. Travelling up for matches was a rare treat for me then so I missed out on so many great goals.

 

Wow. That's a pity for him. His career is already going down the pan - a few goals there could've salvaged some sort of reputation.

 

I'd been wondering whether we'll end up trying to recall him, if we didn't get a striker signed. He can't be that bad when he's fully fit.... surely?
