Anyone going to The Endiburgh Fringe? (Blatant plug my niece is singing up there) BYC’s RETURN TO THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE 9th - 16th August 2022 The internationally award winning Barnsley Youth Choir, recent performers on Britain’s Got Talent, make their long awaited return to the Edinburgh Fringe! 84 outstanding young singers from the 5th highest ranked choir in the Interkultur World Rankings will perform alongside a professional band at the beautiful, historic Greyfriars Kirk. The group sing a wide variety of genres and styles, including pop, gospel, spiritual, world and classical music - there will be something for everybody to enjoy! We will be joined by a selection of our youngest members between the 12th and the 15th to perform as a special Mass Choir in concert. There will be in total 170+ of our singers at the Fringe - WOW! The highlight of our visit this year will be the performance and World Premiere of ‘A Curving Flower of Gold.’ It is a piece we commissioned from the world renowned, fantastic and well-loved UK composer Paul Mealor. Paul will be joining us in Edinburgh for our Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th 5:00pm performances to conduct the premiere himself… This is an event truly not to be missed! Don’t just take our word for how amazing these concerts will be - read the reviews below from audience members from our last visit. I was there a few years back and was quite surprised to see the Barnsley youth choir doing their bit. I'll be up this year and will keep an eye out for on the Royal Mile.
Just got back to the Hotel from a night watching Frankie Boyle and Mark Watson. Both excellent - but in very different ways. Edinburgh is absolutely rammed but I’m sure Oakwell will be even more crowded tomorrow. I’m expecting an attendance to be ‘announced’ of around 45,000.
Any tips on anyone to see? I was considering Fankie Boyle. I saw Mark Watson quite recently. I've got Tim Vine booked, and I was looking at comic poet John Hegley.
To be honest I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of events! It’s so vast it’s almost impossible to chose. Today we’re seeing Ross Leslie and Henning Wehn. Tomorrow ‘The show that must not be named’ and Michelle Kant. I did want to go and see the Football comedy show in Leith about the Scottish cup final. But ar lass, not unreasonably said, if I wanted to see a football comedy show I could have gone to Oakwell. A bit harsh I thought. On today’s game, I be grateful if the Lads around me in the Ponty could start the grumbling in my absence. I’m sure I’ll catch up soon.
I’ll be there next week. Son no 2 is playing and singing in that there choir. Also have another relative in a one man show about the Bradford Bulls which will be worth seeing. Only up for 4 days and know that you cannot possibly do the Fringe justice in that time. Actually performed there myself in 2016. Great experience.
Oh, if you like one liners and want to see someone different to the normal crowd, see Mark Simmons. He's normally 'free ticketed'.
Took my parents to see BYC this afternoon and they were amazing. They put on a superb performance and are credit to the town. Particular highlights were versions of Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now and Toto's Africa. If you get the chance to see them then you won't be disappointed. They also had the kiddies choir doing a couple of songs and they were equally awesome
