    I was thinking about Patrick Cryne's dream of having a Barnsley XI of academy graduates. Who would that be if we had an XI of current professionals who we developed? I came up with this;

    Jack Walton

    James Bree
    John Stones
    Luke Waterfall
    Mason Holgate

    Paul Digby
    Matty Wolfe
    George Maris

    Jordan Clark
    Jacob Brown
    Rhys Oates

Probably a mid table Championship team there. Academy must be doing something right :)

That team would do about as well in the Championship as we did last season.

Defence looks great. Wolfe & brown decent. Rest aren't close to championship quality though. Did Ben Williams come through our academy? I'd rather him at LB and holgate moves to replace Waterfall.

I'd put Marsh in too, over Oates especially!

Patrick's dream could come to fruition if we sell all our seasoned pro's and started from scratch in League 2. Hang on a minute that's what we're trying to do.

I disagree. You've got a back 3 of a World Cup/Euros semi finalist, a good Premier League player and a full back playing for a team who made the play offs.

Likewise up top, two solid Championship performers who did well last season.

Digby would've been a regular for us last season over the likes of Gomes or Palmer. He's developed into a solid footballer at League One at least.

Only one of the midfield/forwards plays above league 1. Three of them play in league 2 (as does the 4th defender). Wolfe doesn't even start for us in League 1. Digby might be a decent on the ball but he has very little mobility.

No chance that team survives in the Championship, there's no goals in it.

Two. Jordan Clark's a regular for Luton and Jacob Brown scored 13 league goals last season.

Be interesting to see if a mint defence can keep you in the leage with a midfield that isn't up to it.

Good to see some academy lads still in the league though.

George Smith and Danny Rose on the bench?

There are a few others playing league football. Will Smith at Harrogate. Scott Flinders at (I think) Mansfield.

My main point was that it's promising to see the academy producing so many good Football League players. Hopefully in future we may be able to keep more of them at the club.

The one that really got away was Jordan Clark.

I'm well aware of that. Still academy products.
