I don't see that happening, it would cost a lot of money to bring a case against Bfc or the HK ownership, in the UK. It would not be heard until 2023/24 at the earliest, under UK law they don't have a case. They may bring a class action in the US, against the ownership group,as they are US citizens. Again, the Club,is a separate entity and is not under the jurisdiction of US Courts. Perhaps, the owners of Hex,need to look at their own governance. I suspect it has cost the club a certain amount of money to get out of this but in the long run,a "good" write off.
I did say they feel they are on strong ground. Time will tell otherwise. But you'd think even if they'd bought in a template sponsor contract, it should cover basic breaches and reputational risk.
Well done, Barnsley Football Club. Resolved very quickly. Please learn from this and show a greater degree of due diligence in future.
I don't feel the club, the town or the supporters are humiliated by this incident, RG. The club obviously made a mistake and have rectified it,it may cause them some initial embarrasment, but come the Autumn (Fall), it will be forgotten about.
I doubt it will be forgotten about. I mean there are still posts from time to time about stubs to get a Liverpool ticket!
My initial thought about this deal was that it was the idea/creation of someone who is not UK based involved with the club. I have my suspicions but not sharing.
True this. The level of uproar against something on the BBS always needs turning down a fair few decibels to be the actual word on the street amongst the main fan base. Even the heightened mentions of this on social media were from the same circle that always post, with a few new voices thrown in. It might get referenced ongoing, as all mistakes are, but I don't think it will have a long lasting impact. Doesn't mean questions won't, and shouldn't, be asked of the club the next time there's an opportunity though. How we've found ourselves in this position is still important, even if that ultimately ends up being played down as a genuine and honest oversight and mistake.
I got abused on Facebook by a stranger the other day, when discussing and explaining my role in Prevent,he said I had Rose tinted spectacles. He's right obviously . Hope you and your wife are well today and coping with the heat.
Brilliant news. Common sense has prevailed. This also shows that the supporters voices can have a massive impact. So we should never be afraid to speak up if something is not right. My only concerns now are that whoever brokered this sponsorship from the club is still in post for the time being. And also we’re now back to being without a sponsor, but if the alternative is to be associated with utter pond life like Hex I’ll be more than happy for us to have a charity logo on our shirts. Maybe we could use different local charities throughout the season as in Weston Park, Barnsley Hospice, Foodbank etc.
Todays news headlines, tomorrows fish and chip paper But i do feel embarrassed right now that we jumped from a whole load of problems last few years, to one that now even challenged our values and integrity. The embarrassing bit is it was self inflicted.
There certainly is on the playing side if you consider how we went through head coaches & coaching staff in the last 12 months
Where have I suggested it should be brushed under the carpet? It's just too easy to come on here calling for people to be sacked. There's livelihoods at stake. Let the club handle it.
I think I must have viking blood.... anything above 12 degrees and it's too warm for me! Looking like it will be hitting 34/35 here today.... so slightly warmer than the ideal!
On the other hand, it could well promote us to be a club with morals. I've already seen a couple of rival supporters praise us like "Barnsley FC, showing other clubs how to do the right thing, again"
Been saying something similar elsewhere. Not necessarily on morals, but what an opportunity for the incoming sponsor. Be welcomed in with a fan fare like no other we've ever seen just for a logo on the front of the shirt. If I was a local business owner I'd be giving it some serious thought this morning.
Press Association have already covered it, so it's gone out to every media establishment in the UK. https://www.bt.com/sport/news/2022/...irt-sponsorship-deal-with-cryptocurrency-site
