Decided to stay over in Derby last night after the game.Decent night out but too many real ale pubs with some selling lager only but I managed to have a good drink making a few sacrifices. I went in one bar and a bloke came over talking to me thinking I was an old Derby player.Any way we got chatting about the game and his view was that he expects Derby to win the league but more interesting to me was he thought on the performance Barnsley could get second,he was very impressed with the reds.Didn't quite make the defeat more bearable but it was still good to hear the opposition's view.
Surely an oxymoron, you can't have too many... But yes there are lots of decent real ale pubs in Derby. I wouldn't know about any non real ale pubs though The Silk Mill The Flowerpot (also a music venue) The Exeter Arms The Seven Stars Derby Brewing Tap House 2 Wetherspoons Several micropubs And others that my brain can't bring to mind at the moment.
I'm not really into real ales though.I don't mind the odd one but if I'm out on a sesh I find them a bit too much.
Ye Old Dolphin Inn was a bar I went in I can't remember what beer it was but I had 3 while watching a terrific Indie,Punk and mod band called Damage Report.
I stayed over in derby all weekend and was amazed at their fans reactions to the referee, everyone I spoke to that was at the game mentioned how bad he was and that he didn’t give them anything Obviously they failed to mention the soft free kick he gave them when all the Barnsley fans were appealing for a penalty Not usually a fan of micro pubs pubs but found cracking little gem in Spondon called the Hoptimist
Been in the Flowerpot a few times. My Bro in Law lives in Derby and is in a number of bands. (Cajun / Zydeco/ Americana) . It’s pretty much his home turf.
