Gareth Ainsworth's notoriously physical Wycombe arrive at Oakwell this Saturday. The last time we met under Valerien Ismael, we recorded the double over the Chairboys, with an aggregate 5-2 scoreline. Whilst we seem to be shaking off the hangover of last seasons relegation, Wycombe are struggling to shake off that Play-off final defeat. Currently they sit outside the relegation zone by a single goal, having lost their last 3 league games. Away from home, they've conceded 3 goals in both of their games so far, and have given up the majority of chances in each. This includes a heavy defeat to lesser fancied Exeter City. Both Sam Volkes and Ryan Tafazoli have missed the last 3 games, league and cup. Both are heavily Influential players and are closing in on returns to the squad. Former reds defender Jason McCarthy has been out all season so far with injury. In terms of other familiar faces, Alfie Mawson made his first start in the defeat to Exeter after signing last week. Josh Scowen has been an ever present in the league for Wycombe ever since serving a suspension for a red card in February, so is likely to start in midfield. At home, we are now unbeaten in our last 28 league games at league 1 level, winning the last 5. We are also unbeaten in our 4 meetings with Wycombe at Oakwell, winning the last 2 and drawing the first 2. Both of those victories game by a 2-1 score line, and include a pair of Cauley Woodrow penalties. In terms of complete head to head, we've only lost once in 8 meetings with Wycombe. A very strong Barnsley side under Daniel Stendel were defeated 1-0 at Adams Park going on for 4 years ago. There does appear to be an air of confidence around Oakwell, and it could be a good time to play a struggling Wycombe team. I'm going for a 3rd consecutive 2-1 Oakwell victory over the Chairboys, with Aitchison and Styles on the score sheet.
Y Great analysis and based on that and the fact we are clearly improving under a coach who does have a clue means we should be in good shape for a comfortable win..... Years of supporting the Red though makes me worry that a game like this which all the signs are we should win is just the sort of game we dont I can easily see a 1-1 draw Going to stick my neck out though and show some confidence and put us down for a 2-0 victory PS Benson to score again and quite possibly Cole
My family name was Cole on my Grandma's branch. Albert Edward Cole served in the Bradford Pals in WW1, and had his leg broken by a camel kick whist on a training exercise in Cairo. Not sure I have any connection to Devante though, although we are both really good at footy
I'll go 3-0 Styles in the 1st half, ensuring a £15m move to Besiktas the week after. Norwood with a 2nd half brace, prior to being chased round the pitch by an angry young man from Hemsworth, ranting that Kiwomya would have had at least six.
This feels like it could be a typical Barnsley game. Our tails will be up after a good result (and performance) and we're playing a team on a bad run. We're expecting to win though I fear they'll come and frustrate us, knick an early goal and then park the bus. My initial thoughts was a narrow away victory or one of those low scoring draws where we equalise in the last 5 minutes after having about 20 attempts on goal. However, I was listening to the NTT20 boys earlier in the week and they've swayed me. Apparently Wycombe have sold their keeper from last season and haven't replaced him so are relying on an understudy who isn't really doing the business. With this in mind, I'm foolishly going for 2-0 home victory with Benson and Aitchison on the score sheet EDIT Just seen that they've signed the Livingston's keeper though unsure if he'll be registered in time
2 nowt to the Red and white wizards. Onwards and upwards with a boss who seems to have a basic grasp of this management lark compared to the last 2 clowns
