We are lucky to not have more than five wickets down. There is playing positively and then there is playing stupid.

Take it we're five down. I like Bazzball. Everybody averaging 20 each innings. Nice little 220 and matches over in three days. It's the future.

    100-5

Stokes out the last ball before lunch

Last 15 minutes we had taken the impetus away from SA but that wicket brings Foakes to the wicket as our last recognised batsman.

Need Pope to stay there and try and hold things together.

We need divine intervention. Hope Pope can muster a minor miracle.

Seen glimpses of it while largely trying to watch our game from last night. For some unknown reason I haven't been able to get past the 70th minute. Tried multiple browsers, refreshing and rebooting and still getting the wheel of doom despite all other things being fine.

South Africa seemed to have bowled really well and tested our lack of technique.

Slogball is fine when the ball is dead on a flat pitch and when you haven't got 4 very good quicks to contend with.

It doesn't cover over the glaring fact that all of our batsmen apart from Root (and to a much much lesser degree Foakes) have poor technique to stay in when the ball is doing something. Slog and hope, a good player makes you not.

I'd play Bairstow wicket keeper and Brook to replace Foakes

That would be a solution but he averages 30 and is widely regarded as the best stumper in the world.

Stumping comes in more for white ball rather than test cricket. It's a date imo not to let Brook have a taste of test cricket this summer

I agree about Brook but can’t agree about dropping a master stumper who is a more than competent batter ( has already got a century ) as well.

Stokes is a Foakes fan as well.

The most important thing is we’re getting stuffed

I hope Pope copes with the slope and finds the rope.

Wiki says he’s very strong technically and a natural stroke maker.
When’s that then cos he ain’t in long enough

Chuff knows. All I know it's that there are strong similarities between following Barnsley in the football and England in the cricket. It's the hope that does you.

At least we can all have a good grumble afterward.

If they keep picking Crawley I might start supporting Australia

Pope gone early. Any chance of a decent score you'd think has gone.
That top order batting was woeful to say the least (Pope aside).

Pope got out playing across the line too. That said with this tail it doesn't matter. It's dire. They need to learn how to play a situation. Be a long drawn out defeat if South Africa get in.
