Further evidence they are up Sh*t Creek.
What happened to bringing through or signing talent?
It smacks of the desperation of a club who are drifting further and further away from success.
I’ve secured tickets to Man Utd vs Arsenal on the 4th of September and look forward to seeing them get a tonking.

He might do a decent job for them in the Championship next season.

He is only thirty. He could easily have a good five years left in him. He's a born winner with 3 La Liga titles and 5 Champions League. His experience should help the younger players.

The cash being spent sounds high for a thirty year old to our fans because we've had it drummed in to us that every signing must be young to have a resale value.

Sorry but he isn’t going to get any better at 30. His performances are only going to go one way. Cavani, Ronaldo, Matic, Sanchez, Varane, Ighalo…
At one time Man Utd brought through 5 or 6 Premier League quality signings per season and supplemented them with two or three top european players. They’re a club in decline, desperately offering big pay days to players who have no further desire to win anything. Ferguson should never have convinced Ronaldo to re-sign.

They desperately need a midfielder. McFred is as bad a double pivot in the top league as possible. But this is a giant leap. There's no resale value - 30 years old, 4/5 year deal. Man City have just signed Kalvin Philips for a lot less. Similar player, but he's in his early 20s. Declan Rice is maybe gettable for that kind of price? Bissouma went to Tottenham for 25 mil. Tielemens wants out of Leicester - his contract is running down.

It's a poor signing from a financial side I think.

He could easily have just snapped up this ridiculous contract with a view to phoning it in for 4 years before retiring. He's won everything, what's his motivation? He's either decided he wants a massive, massive challenge or he's fleecing them for a huge payday. Time will tell, but I think the latter is more likely than the former.

Also his legs could well go within 2 years and then what?

Bit confused by the response to this. We’ve been battling ourselves for players who can do it right now rather than worrying about their resale value, and if we’d adopted that approach we might not be in League One this season.

He’s 30. Hardly ancient. The same age as Mo Salah who just got a ridiculous new contract. He’s exactly what Man Utd need. A born winner, a midfield general, a leader, bags of experience, and 100% the right kind of character they need to get out of the mess they’re in and get some of their younger players appreciating what they’ve got. The position he plays means they can get a good five years out of him in a similar way to other players in that position.

They need a lot more on top of this, but when Nottingham Forest sign someone who has started two Premier League games ever with zero International caps, in a deal worth £42.5m, I’m struggling to not see the value in a Champions League Winner (five times) signing for a club that currently has McTominay and Fred.

Wasn’t Phillips about £45m plus add ons? Not that much less as the figure in the OP is Euros and 10 million of it is conditional on Champions League football in the future.

West Ham were quoting sides £150m this Summer so no chance there. Really like Bissouma, unsure on Tielemans at the top top level, but neither have the pedigree and leadership of Casemiro - they’re paying for those qualities as much as his undoubted ability as one of the best holding midfielders in the world.

Found this really interesting when you consider some of the discussions on here this Summer.

A deal agreed ‘in principle’. You then read the article and it is dependent on personal terms, a medical and International clearance. Obviously they’re confident enough on all points, but a brave move. I hope we don’t announce similar when we eventually bring a striker in!

I'd be surprised if any of those become a stumbling block. They will already have personal terms pretty much agreed, you would imagine, just not signed and sealed. They'll know what he's after and he'll know what they're willing to pay you would expect.

Medical he's probably unlikely to fail and I can't imagine him not getting a visa.

Just feel like as a club who are allegedly ther biggest in the world, buying cast offs from other teams doesn’t fit that bill.
Even Arsenal bought decent youngish players from Man City.

But you just don’t know on a medical until your own team get to assess someone. If it wasn’t for the position they’re in PR wise, and football wise, they wouldn’t have gone early with this. You’d get the ink dry and announce it.

A Champions League winner being called a cast off. Hardly a cast off when Real Madrid had announced this Summer he was their top priority in midfield to allow the young signings to bed in for a the next two years.

Ancelotti was only in the press a couple of weeks ago talking about having ‘four captains’ but only having one true leader. Leadership being exactly what Manchester United don’t have in the middle of the pitch.
