Cheers, chaps. The Nunthorpe was a fantastic race. Some training performance by John Quinn, that - just 12 days on from the Group 1 in France. And much kudos to Richard Fahey for a magnificent run from his two-year-old filly. Quickthorn was impressive in the Lonsdale in a very quick time. Strad and Trueshan would have had a race on their hands if they'd turned up. And Noble Style was value for extra in the Gimcrack. A superb afternoon's racing, all in all.
The Nunthorpe was a cracking race but the 2 miler was a bit of a farce ( all credit to Marquand though ). Great meeting though … York is the best
Last day, folks! Here are my guesses: 1.50 2.25 3.00 Al Suhail 3.35 Okita Soushi/Candleford/Gaassee 4.10 Lampang/Aleezdancer 4.45 5.20 I'm far from convinced that Frankie's mount should be an 11/10 shot in the first. Like much of the card, it's competitive. Ditto the second. None of my selections are good things, but I think Al Suhail (3.00) is capable of much better than he showed in Dubai last time, and given the form Appleby and Buick are in, I think he's worth an interest at 10/1 (Bet365). The Ebor (3.35) is typically tough to solve, but Okita Soushee looks to have been plotted up for the race by Joseph. I saw Gaassee win here in May and he looks tailor-made for a strongly-run Ebor. But because Tom Marquand rides the stable's Candleford I have to include him and I think he has further improvement to come. Paddy Twomey's Earl Of Tyrone has been backed off the boards for this, but he is 17 lbs higher than his last handicap win and I think that is a very tough ask. Having mentioned Lampang (4.10) in my opening post on this thread, I note he has been directed here en route to a possible tilt at the Ayr Gold Cup. At 20/1 (Paddy's/Betfair SB) I will have to keep the faith but I'm also having a bit on the much-improved Aleezdancer who may have found his niche now at this trip. Summerghand is weighted to win soon, but I think he's a bit short today. I find the last two races pretty insoluble. Away from York, I'm interested in Dark Vega (2.35 Curragh) and Secret Box/Migdam (3.50 Sandown), who are both Cambridgeshire entries. Good luck all!
Its Saturday its Football, ere goes Sheff Utd, Barnsley, MKD, Mansfield, Swindon, Portsmouth, Everton, 7 Fold
Hmm! Couldn't put you off, Winker. He has progressed race by race. Gaassee is three pounds better with him for less than two lengths at Haydock, and I don't think the Haggas charge was ridden to best advantage last time (Ceiren Fallon). Trouble is Tom Marquand is not back on today either - he rides Candleford. But if you go through this field and ask: possible winner? I ticked yes to eleven of them!
Also backed Gaassee but sadly finished lame so excuses there . Backed Kinross at sp so slight profit on the day
Hadn't seen that, Egham. It perhaps explains why he dropped off quickly after appearing to be making promising progress. Dettori was magical yesterday. I backed Trawlerman at Chelmsford and Goodwood but couldn't quite have him yesterday off four pounds higher and minus Benoit De La Sayette's 5 lb claim! A cracking race though. And a vintage Ebor Meeting, with memorable performances from the likes of Baaeed, Alpinista, Highfield Princess and Quickthorn. Good, fast summer ground helps. It will be fascinating to see how Frankie gets on at Deauville today aboard Verry Elleegant. She is supposedly being trained for a possible tilt at the Arc (25/1, generally) but you have to go back 90 years to find the only seven-year-old winner! (Motrico, 1932). Closer to home, I am hoping Aqwaam can back up his win at Galway in the 5.12 at Sandown (not too far from Egham?) Hopefully the uphill Sandown finish can compensate for the drop back in trip. He is 6/1 in most books.
That would have been a more profitable use of my time! All quiet until the St Leger meeting now, I think.
Had a few small bets but when I say Not For Profit was the best result I had you know what sort of day I had. It was a non runner !
Not a bad week of entertainment. I backed Trawlerman and Kinross on Saturday. Had a bet yesterday at Sandown and still don't know what I have do to get a winner on the Sprint course. Swings and roundabouts.
I kicked myself for not backing Trawlerman, SD. I followed it earlier in the season when it won at Chelmsford and Goodwood. Trouble was, there were at least a dozen in the Ebor I could give a good chance to. I really ought to have left the race alone on my usual logic! Those races on the 5F course at Sandown looked fiendish.
I managed to get Andeleep and Invigilate. However, Ikhtiraaq didn't quite get going and Evaluation was chinned on the line. Could have been brilliant but I'll settle for o.k.
