They played really well, whenever we had a man on the ball he had two or three chair boys around them. On the other hand we were rushed off the ball and couldn’t find a pass. Barnsley looked poor, but we have to give them credit for wanting the win and having the confidence to lob the goalie and shoot from distance. For us it’s a wake up call that this squad is not good enough to beat the top teams in this division. We have 10 days to find the players we need.
I don’t think it’s a wake up call at all, I’ve yet to speak to a reds fan or read anything where anyone thinks this season is not going to be anything other than a tough season. How Wycombe played and what they did wasn’t at all surprising. The only redeeming factor ( if you can call it that) is up to them scoring with their first shot, we were in the ascendancy and could’ve gone into half- time with a 2 goal lead. Unfortunately That second half could well be repeated a few times this season if we continue like that.
It was a wake up call for me, because after Tuesday I really thought we were moving forward. Previous games weren’t too bad with Derby hanging on at the end. We weren’t at the races second half. Couldn’t see the sweat.
Wycombe played well and not taking anything away from them they deserved their win . However I was disappointed in the second half showing and commitment of our players . Nobody wanted the ball and got rid as soon as it came to them . We backed off like frightened rabbits every time they came forward and could and probably should have scored more it was embarrassing how afraid of them we were . There was seemingly no Plan of attack when we did get the ball up front with no one any idea of what their next move was . I can accept a defeat but that second half was a surrender and needed a captain or someone to kick some asses , we looked leaderless on the field imo , it harked back to last season that second half imo with no one taking any responsibility and just going through the training manual without conviction .
Looking at their goals, all of which were absolute humdingers, they try any of those on another day and 9 times out of 10 they go wide/over. Sometimes it just goes for you (except us obviously - but then we don't shoot). That doesn't excuse our performance though. Some serious wastrels amongst our playing staff.
Good post @e-red Too many people are far to quick to criticise our team without acknowledging that the opposition often deserve credit for playing well.
I wasn't there yesterday so I respect you view, who would you accuse? I was at Derby and every player put a proper shift in.
It was typical Wycombe, and we couldn’t deal with their physicality, in the second half particularly. We are worryingly short of player(s) who can impose themselves against that type of opposition, because I suspect the majority of teams in this division will adopt a similar approach.
I liked this post because of the word ‘wastrel’. No idea what it means but it sounds nice when you say it out loud. Is it one of them lads that plays them funny shaped guitars?
All joking aside, no they din't play fair and they never do. Its an appalling way they go about it and I pity them if thats the only way they can beat teams. And stricter more professional refs could stop it from happening, with a few yellow or even red cards earlier on in the matches.
Brilliant goals, be a long time before we see 3 better in one game. Well done Wycombe (gritted teeth)
So we were playing the better football, foot to foot passing and looking good, Chairboys we’re punting hopeful long balls, so why change tactics and try to play them at their own game, the blustery wind called for low controlled passing. We are short of strong experienced Captain who can steer the ship and direct the crew from on the pitch.
