They were literally sold the club under the premise that they would make it self sufficient and not have to put their wealth in. That wasn't their plan, that was the plan of Patrick Cryne. Whether that plans working now is a different matter. But judging by the apparent losses from relegation, and the fact that we've seemingly dried up the freebies market, it'll be players on loan to fill the gaps we have. You might not like it, but that's the reality, and it has been since they took over.
They have to try to make us competitive in this league though. With the current crop of forwards we have we’ll be in the bottom third looking over our shoulder.
I think Rotherham managed okay last season?? Oh yeah I forgot owner cares about the club. If a club stands on it's two own feet what's the point having owners??? Or do they just want money out if club makes a bit??
It beats me how Rotherham can keep going straight back up again each time, after an awful Champship relegation. And they don't feel sorry for themselves, and keep whingeing about losses of 7+ mill.
Rotherham’s wage bill during the season behind closed doors was 6m less than ours. That’s why they don’t have a 7m shortfall to cover.
There are some very useful players being signed by clubs much smaller than us in League One, it's all a bit odd to be honest, even taking into account the drop in income, some player wages etc.
Rotherham never seem to sell any players to survive either. That Barlaser seems a very good player but no one has come in and taken him. Warne also has a great record as a coach but he’s still there. All on less gates than we get and playing in a nice new stadium. They seem to be fantastically run by a local owner who loves the club. Us on the other hand……
Rotherham sold 2 of their best players to Wednesday in the summer. The summer before, they sold their best player to Middlesbrough. They sell their best players every summer, they just have a better track record of replacing them.
Maybe that should be a good track record then, rather than better. They don't often seem to sign a player who needs 12 months to get going like we do. Then again, they often lose their best players in the 12 months after buying them. I think my point is, their model is hardly much more inspiring than our own.
Well that’s wrong. 1, if not both were out of contract. The center half was a freebie who went to Wednesday.
I must be missing something, I thought we had signed half a dozen players , the question the op posed should have been " are the signings we have made this season good enough to make a difference this season ? We have made signings, are they good enough ?
I'm no financial expert but the accepted short fall is around 8 million we have sold Woodrow and Morris for at the most optimistic 3 million that's still a massive gap to fill. We haven't sold Helik to get full value you need to hold your nerve. The transfer market is like a pack of cards once player A moves then that triggers the rest maybe player A is Helik. As for loans if we have holes to fill and little money I don't see the alternative but there are loans and loans young players straight out of 23's football would be disappointing but ones that had been out before with some track record would fit the bill for me, weren't a few names mentioned that had been with Duff at Cheltenham. We need to be realistic Ipswich have spent a fortune over a few seasons but are still at this level Duff said stay with them trust what they are trying to do remember 2016 ureds.
Thought the two players they lost to Wednesday in the summer were out of contract? They offered them new deals but both players turned them down. Pretty sure they didn't get any fees.
I stand corrected on Ihekwe, he did leave on a free. And despite being offered a new deal, dropped down a league. They sold Smith though, their top scorer, to a team the league below them. They sold Tilt to Wigan in January, and Crookes and Olusunde went last summer. They also had Ladapo leave on a free this summer, and whilst he wasn't a regular last season, that was manly due to him openly requesting a move. My point is, it's hardly all sunshine and roses with their transfer business either.
Both were free signings. Rotherham offered both new deals and were offering Smith a club record contract offer apparently but Fowls gazumped that offer and both went on frees.
I stand corrected. The site I use said the fee was unknown. But I guess that answers why they didn't sell their best players in the summer.
