It's a weird thing to do 5 games into a season. Especially having given him a full pre-season with the squad. Their defeat to Morecambe in the cup looks particularly poor though. It was a fairly strong Stoke side, and they lost on penalties to a league 1 side who spent the last half hour with 10 men.
It does seem brutal and a bit early but results show that the clubs suffer most. Managers seem to accept sackings of this severity and the financial payout does help somewhat ! A couple of sackings on their CV’s doesn’t seem to jeopardise future work too much. Even Mourinho has got a few dismissals. The fans probably have been screaming for action since the last two games so they shouldn’t complain
Always thought it was an odd appointment. Did great with NI but I think he is too dour a manager for a club with Stoke's aspirations especially having been in the Premier League recently.
Rumours on Twitter that a certain Joey Barton is their top target. A lot of Stoke fans not happy at this.
Did a tremendous job with Stoke when you take in to account the circumstances. Stabilised the club really, dealing with overpaid and over the hill players that weren't motivated, reducing the wage bill over time from £40m (yes, £40m!) down to £20m, without really splashing the cash. Challenge now is they want promotion and have began to invest a bit more. Results weren't forthcoming so off you pop. Think their supporters were patient during the first couple of years but were starting to vent their frustration this season - once that happens your time really is up.
You can sort of understand people like Mourinho as his record of winning trophies etc it’s the ones who have won or achieved very little that bemuse me. If I was a chairman with a list of people who came from that list or someone new I’d want to talk with some of the untested.
Not sure someone on here last night posted duff is a worse head coach than schopp and poya after losing to a side 3rd in the premier league.
