MICHAEL DUFF REFLECTS ON LEEDS TIE Interviews Speaking after our Carabao Cup defeat on Wednesday night at Elland Road, Michael Duff’s praised his side’s mentality in what was a spirited performance from the Reds. Continue reading on the official site...
Not sure I've ever agreed with a Barnsley manager as often as I do with Duff's assessment and realism on our games. As long as we feel like the shape and style is improving throughout the season, and that the players are responding to him and Paterson, I can't think of a better Head Coach that we could have brought in.
There's a refreshing realism and a cautious but spirited expectation to the way he sees our game and his vision. Hope for improvements but grounded in the present reality of the situation. And an overarching message - a good one - that with hard graft we will reap rewards.
Realism, honesty, and no lingo and jargon. Should have been a penalty, but we might not have scored it. Wolfe came on and had an impact, unlike on Saturday where he did nothing. Work to do on the training pitch but not much time to do it. Starts are earned not gifted. Actual soundbites from our gaffer but could easily be from supporters.
Let’s hope so but I hope fans don’t get restless with him. Think we’re likely to hit the bottom 4 after the next 3 games but hopefully as the tough run of matches ends we start to pick up some points. This season is about consolidation and I think we’ll be ok eventually.
Can see him doing such a good job of consolidation that he's poached and a new manager comes in and does the moving forward part.
He certainly talks a good game, and if we're being honest, that's all we have to be positive about when it comes to the manager. The system and performance against Wycombe was probably worse than anything from last year. I have never seen 4 central midfielders spend the entire second half stood in a line next to each other like that before. Hence I don't get the accolades he seems to be getting really.
