    Excuse me Chappers name me a player that is loyal to the football club he represents.
    Not many players stayed at the same club for ten years these days.
    The likes of Sir Bobby are very rare these days.
    Loyalty works both ways.

    I'm fine for Barnsley being seen as a stepping stone. After all, this is what has always helped us attract players. We've always sold players and we always will and most clubs are like this.
    However, under Conway, this accelerated and changed the mentality and image of the club from a stepping stone to a conveyor belt of players where the club knew the price of everyone and the value of no-one.
    Loyalty is of course a 2-way thing but I do think Chaplin's comments hint at the clubs culture of seeing both staff and players more as trading commodities further weakened the loyalty and ties a person might develop with the club and breed a mentality where everyone (players, king serving backroom staff) start to look out for themselves first.

    The fans are amazing but don’t worry I have no issue with celebrating a goal against them. Erm ok fair enough but let’s be honest if Ipswich got promoted and then felt they have a better option than Conor and they are going to move him on in the same way.

    Had no issue with him celebrating. He was practically binned off to Ipswich and replaced with Iseka, that’s gone well…

    I know which player outta the 2 I’d rather have. He wasn’t and still isn’t a prolific goal scorer Chaplin, but he would put in 110% every game and graft his arse off.

    Clubs. There are always exceptions but the way some clubs treated players pre Bosnan was hardly going to encourage players to stay.

    To be fair to Barnsley under Patrick we were not so bad and if players showed loyalty it was returned. Conway however. I can’t blame Chaplin for his attitude. He wasn’t treated particularly well. Whether Ipswich are any better than us I don’t know but they certainly can’t be worse than we were a year ago

    Chaplin owes us nothing and I have no issue with him celebrating - was a good goal too.

    The number of ex-Reds playing for Championship or League 1 clubs is pretty long. It does make me wonder if the buy-and-sell policy is any good. The data analysis, scouting and recruitment identifies good young talent but as soon as another club offer decent wages they leave. The wage structure needs tweaking. After a young player has had a year in the First Team, if we want them to stay, we’ve got to pay almost the same as the bigger clubs. We’ll never hold on to a senior Championship-level pro as we won’t match the wages available elsewhere. We should be able to keep hold of someone like Chaplin though for a couple of years.

    In the case of Ipswich I expect they’re matching the wages of many Championship teams though.

    I do not want to hear Chaplin preaching about club loyalty , he is an average division one player who will move for the drop of a hat if his agent gets him a better deal , player loyalty is as rare as hens teeth , great goal Connor but learn to engage brain before opening mouth please .

    I dunno, we never stand in the way of a player either who wants to move - if he was a better player and his agent had told him Southampton wanted to buy him and give him 40k a week I’m sure loyalty would be straight out the window then.

    I have no issue in anything he has said there.

    He feels he was binned off after doing a decent job for us. He was.

    I also though, to be honest, think it’s absolute crap that it has become an expectation that players don’t celebrate goals against former teams. They are doing the job they are paid to do for the club that wants them.

    I never saw Alan Shearer not celebrate when scoring against Blackburn or Southampton.

    If you score, celebrate with your teammates and your fans. That isn’t disrespectful to the fans of your former club in the slightest in my eyes.

    I’ve I’d hit that free kick yesterday I’d not have held back let’s put it that way!

    Can't blame him as we see players as commodities. It was much better in the days of players reaching or getting close to reaching a decade with us. Our current board don't allow that.

    Maybe the wage structure could be based on an appearance/performance related 4 year contract. After a player has had a good season (50 games) they get a salary increment. After 100 games they get to the level of wages that matches most teams at our level.
