The journalists tend to be more restrained in their commentary and tend not to offer personal views too frequently. They're generally free of the emotions and biases that we, as fans, fail to escape from.

This post, by it's very existence, is a damning indictment of the transfer window we've just had.

Hard to disagree with the sentiment too, given that we've continued the scattergun approach to transfer activity without addressing the key needs of the squad.

He’s right. We need someone in with local connection and football knowledge with a history of scouting good players to work alongside the manager. Someone like Wilson or even Mick Mac might be tempted into a non forwards facing role with the emphasis on recruitment

Perhaps someone doesn't want a 'football person' over ruling the spreadsheet?

I think it's more that we don't want the additional salary on the books.

He's a good journalist Leon, and he's spot on.

Last season, the board were completely negligent.

This season, I do think they're trying, but maybe don't have the reach and knowhow to ensure this football club goes back in the right direction.

Zero 'footballing nouse' within the boardroom. Most have been saying this for a long time.

Why would you pay for a consultant aswel as a hefty salary for an incompetent CEO. Get rid and get a CEO in that can do the job, that's the bottom line here.

*BFC board we know you know nothing about football but for your own sakes and the future of the club get rid of this useless CEO.

Agree. And it looks as though definitely Phillips and probably Martin were both recommended by Duff, so at least the board are listening to him.

One that gets me - Josh Koroma. Young local striker with champ goals. Loaned out by Hudds to Pompey at almost exactly the same time we are selling them Helik and are in desperate need of a striker. No-one joined the dots there did they? ☹

If only we could go back to the days when we had a manager (not a head coach) who looked after the team from recruitment, through coaching to offloading players.

But then you end up needing to start from scratch every time you get a new manager - which is every season or two.

It makes more sense to recruit for a particular style of play and get managers that fit that.

(Obviously this only works when we actually hire managers for a plan! Last year blew that.)

Leon has probalby caught an insight into how the footballing side is being run. It's pretty damning on the CEO.

I think he's right on the makeup of the board. We've seemingly got a good data department and some well meaning board members. But not the experienced football people.

By the way, anybody suggesting we ditch the data use for recruitment is essentially saying we return to the footballing stone age.

Yes! So the manager is a good fit for the club's ethos, then let him choose which players to buy or sell.

Edit; Obviously he'd need to be able to use Excel.....

Agree with him 100%. We just don’t seem to have anyone at the Club with the nous to get deals done.

It’s either Khaled’s job and he’s not very good at it. Or it’s not Khaled’s job and he should be bringing someone in who’s job it is.

Huge question marks over our CEO for me. Other than Duff, I just can’t see how he’s moving us forwards

I have promoted the need for a director of football / consultant role for a while. The only thing is cost but it doesnt have to be 6 days a week.

I have no idea if we had a plan for the window or not. Whether it was good or we couldn't execute.

i do know that we needed 1 even 2 strikers as priority. We didnt. We said we needed Styles and Helik money, we didnt get much. No idea if we achieved our board room objectives or not. But we dont look much better after the window than before for this league.

Its madness if we have a coach whos job is restricted to first team footballing activities and then don't have someone in a director of football role who deals with recruitment - utter shambles if that's the case.

I think we have the person to get deals done.I think we've signed 10 or 11 since Duff came in so deals are getting done.
Whether the deals are agreeable with all supporters is debatable but that falls into other perameters at the club out of a lot of peoples control.(finance)

Doesn't work everytime, that's what we had when we were languishing in the old 4th div. Then we broke the mould and went for a player manager and the rest is history.
