It's not the Premier League though is it? That's a different kettle of fish, they've picked poor championship clubs. And Woodrow was estimated to be 10k here, Luton paying much more?
Styles bottled every 50/50 challenge for the last 6 months. It was obvious he didn’t want to jeopardise his big move to bigger and better things…
That was last season, let's see where they finish this season, want a wager on Huddersfield/Luton not bettering last season?
He looked to be going through the motions to me. He's skilful so he did some impressive stuff when on the ball, but I haven't seen a performance from Styles like I saw from the 11 that started today in well over a year. I've seen him make much better passes than some of our players on show today, have better shots, but I think we would have been a much inferior side with him in it. When you're playing the press, defending from the front, you have to bust a gut chasing down the opposition and it only works if everyone is doing it. You can't narrow down all angles, there's always somewhere your opponent can pass and you have to rely on your teammates covering the areas you can't. If they don't the whole thing breaks down and I felt it often broke down with Styles in the side because his heart just wasn't in it. Even if he could thread a ball through the eye of needle.
No, I'm just highlighting the inaccuracies in your 'argument' which also sees you reaching the intellectual height of calling Styles "a little pr!ck". He's a young lad who's got a bag of talent and was brilliant for us when he first came on the scene, integral to preserving our status in 2019/20 and a huge player for Val in the success of 2020/21. He was mucked around something rotten positionally by the two numpty coaches last season and let down awfully in the two transfer windows in terms of the balance needed in the squad. Callum, still only 21 at the start of last season, was one of a number of central midfield options, with the likes of Palmer, Benson etc all of whom were crying out to be played with an experienced central midfield player alongside, not each other! We all knew this - but those assembling the squad showed ineptitude again - for Christ's sake, it was so obvious, did they learn nothing from the centre back situation when Andersen was a different player altogether playing alongside Sollbauer than playing alongside another youngster? And yet Callum still soldiered on, played wherever asked, in almost every different position on the pitch, made the most league appearances of any player last season, carried on despite carrying knocks and still ended up third highest scorer! Yes, his quality of performance was down a notch or three but understandably so in a wretched team, managed by footballing buffoons. The talent and quality is still there, as clearly recognised by respected international and Championship managers, and he already had a really valuable goal and an assist in just six games for us this season. I could be wrong on this but I also seem to remember that it was us that told him to find another club - so we can hardly blame him for not wanting to be here! I wish Callum every success and hope he fulfils his potential having been let down here last season imho. The better he does, the more likely we are to get a return from the talent.
Styles played on and gave it his all in our games this season. Helik has been “injured” until now but is suddenly in contention. I don’t blame either but the stick Styles is getting is crazy.
I think people are forgetting that players absolutely needed to be sold for the club to have any chance of getting through the season. This argument that they’ve hardly bettered themselves is a pretty weak one. Everyone of them will be on a better contract and by reducing the wage bill and bringing cash in has helped the club stabilise. It’s in the player’s and the club’s interest for these players to leave. It may weaken the playing side to ensure the club can financially reset. Onwards and upwards.
Just occurred to me given the oddity of signing them in the first place wonder if the Belgian lads had relegation clauses in their contract. Logic would suggest so but if that’s not the case perhaps it goes some way to explain the Iseka situation.
I don’t get the level of bashing of Styles on here. He played every game, was a lot better this season than he was last - not fantastic ok but he put a shift in, even after saying he wanted to go. Helik meanwhile has been ‘injured’. Reports are he played well on his debut for Millwall. We have no reason to wish him to do badly this season. If we go up we might want him back - if we don’t we want a decent fee. Either way we don’t want him rotting on the bench if he’s got dropped for not playing well.
I honestly think styles was awful this season. People were raving about him after the Bristol game (think it was Bristol) and saying how much effort he'd put in yet all I saw was him ducking out of challenges left right and centre
Did you see the Ipswich game? , played well & scored an excellent goal which in the end got us a point.
Your posts on this thread are very Wednesday fan esque. Luton were pushing for promotion. Town have had stints in the Premier League. All in the league above us. Nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself. Doesn't deserve you calling him a ***** either.
You can't say anything on here without being Wednesday-esque, the only one with ambition is Brittain. I'll stick to what l think he his after his comments after the England game, that's my opinion.
