To be fair every team plays each other home and away so setting off to matches will be the same for everyone over a full season but the problem I see is there will always have to be a certain amount of mid week games which always have to be played under lights.
Wasn't there plans to solar panel the stand roofs (rooves?). I'm sure Oakwell could accommodate a wind turbine, like the Madjeski Stadium?
Technology isn’t quite there for Solar for a building the size of Oakwell but it could certainly help. we have set some solar farms up to support HS2 and there’s no reason the same couldn’t be done on some of the land the club own.
Out of interest why isn't technology there? To an idiot like me it looks like 4 really large relatively flat spaces that solar panels could sit on and charge batteries. What's the difference between that and a solar farm on the ground?
It’s around reliability of supply. So on the sites we set up we don’t use them if they are more than 4 x 32 ft cabins or on modular buildings. The ones we do use are backed up with a battery. To hire those costs us 450 a week so isn’t a cheap solution though you could buy them not sure on costs for that. We are looking at solutions that could support more but they are still at trial stage. That’s not to say they couldn’t help power supply because they could just need to be aware of limitations. Hydrogen is already coming down in price and offers no emissions other than water that can be recycled and is 100% renewable. Medium term would be a great solution for football clubs.
I reckon if the January price rise comes in, as predicted on top of the October rise, you won’t be seeing many people travelling to the other end of the country for a football match anyway.
Is it though? The catering staff are cooking the food. It isn't going to be a fortune. A few drinks I'd imagine. Be less than you think per match. It's also an EFL requirement, isn't it?
Any excuse to reprise this little gem. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/mar/04/sport.comment1
I'll have you know that it's an expensive job being a middle-class carnivore at Glastonbury these days Mr C. Got Duck and Chips at Glasonbury this summer from the Duck Truck. It was the very same truck that used to be near my old office in the City of London. Nearly dropped my pims when they asked for £14 for something that not too long ago I'd paid less than half that price for
Great share Mr.C - my first time seeing that. Quite sobering reading after the last five years. So many similarities to times gone by yet not at all the same. If that makes sense.
Stick it on the East Stand car park. The wind's 20 m/h stronger on there than anywhere else in Barnsley I reckon.
The teams in the South won’t have so much travelling to do to get to their many neighbouring teams though.
