Just caught a bit of the news and I Thought I’d heard them say PL are playing this weekend. May have misheard, but If they are hope the EFL follow suit
They're leaving it up to individual clubs to make the decision. Which pretty much means they'll all play, because the cost will be too much to rearrange.
Premier League and English Football League games called off following death of Queen Elizabeth II https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/62846756
Guess we're all supposed to just sit at home and think of Liz all weekend then. Kicking a ball around is an obvious sign of disrespect
Leger put back to Sunday. So you can get wan kered at Races Sunday and phone in sick Monday when life would be normal if it was left alone.
On the plus side I’m looking forward to tomorrow, and finding out what the mrs and kids actually do on a Saturday !
Yes, really disappointing and unnecessary, It wouldn’t have been disrespectful in the slightest. Indeed, Many thousands of football fans holding a minutes silent at 3pm tomorrow would’ve been quite fitting.
All Rugby League to go ahead at all levels with minute silence. National Anthem to be played and black arm bands worn where possible
All due respect to Liz as a person and to her grieving family and supporters but are the establishment doing this to piss off the non monarchists or the indifferent ? I’d have respectfully observed a tribute tomorrow even though I’m not a monarchist I’d have observed a tribute just as much as any respectful person would to anyone who’d lost a friend or relative , I understand and respect the sentiment of others who had an affinity with the monarchy but ffs this has put so many peoples plans in shot creek for no other reason than because they can imo . I get that they’ll be days set out for mourning , tributes etc and they’ll be some disruption and I’m not against that and fully respect it but games on Saturday don’t come into that category and wouldn’t have been disrespectful to her memory of the family’s grief imo .
Agree with all that, but. Depends on what you mean by establishment mate. I dont think there has been anything from The Royal side or even the government. It's been left to the sporting authorities to decide. I'm guessing a Day of mourning will be announced for when the Funeral takes place.
It’s been done by the sycophants in PL,ESL etc for nothing more than they can claim they are more remorseful than anyone else imo , It’s ridiculous that they’ve come to this decision knowing fans and businesses have been preparing for weeks if not months . They propose to give a fek about the fans and make sycophantic statements of it’s the fans game and the fans are more important etc when it suits then climb up the highest pylon to sh it on them at first opportunity . This decision had not been in the fans interest or businesses that relies on it whatsoever , this decision had just been a show of sycophantic bluster . As I said I get that people will genuinely be saddened etc and want to mourn and pay their respects but this decision goes nowhere towards that whatsoever .
It's even dafter the Doncaster races one because it means everyone will be travelling on a Sunday. People won't stay overnight on a Sunday. Majority will be working Monday. Is it too late to reverse the decision? Cricket and Rugby are carrying on. Would it be too hard to make a statement saying after further discussion baring in mind it's a World Cup year and given the financial climate for (hotels etc Donny). Events will take place as normal.
