Wow!!! After yesterday’s announcement that games would be cancelled I felt I had to make my way to London to lay some flowers, this morning at 9.30 me and my eldest daughter set off to London, parked up at Stanmore and got the tube to Green Park, making our way to Buckingham Palace felt very surreal, whatever people’s thoughts and opinions of the Royal family are, the Queen was someone’s mother, someone’s Grandma and someone’s Great Grandma, upmost respect should be Shoah till she’s laid to rest, of my 36 years on this earth I’ve known no different and I suspect the majority on here are the same. What was very moving today was the masses of people from all races and nationalities all sharing the same objective and that was paying respects to what was thee most important person in our country. The history behind our monarchy shared around the world is massive. I’m pleased I made the effort to go today as not only was it the right thing to do IMO but today is another piece in the history of this great country. RIP Elizabeth x
I keep thinking that, in a way, I would like to go to London on the 19th for the funeral. It will be one hell of a historic occasion of the kind that don't happen many times in a lifetime. The concern is that London will be so rammed you would not get anywhere close to seeing anything. I can imagine that to get a spot on the Mall you'd need to be there by Saturday.
I knew today would be busy so was prepared to stand for long durations, as we made our back down the Mall to the palace we caught a good glimpse of Camilla as she left Buckingham palace.....there was a 1 way system in place today due to the high numbers so next week will be hectic. The bottom of Green Park was full of wagons, forklifts etc already preparing for the 19th, just touching on the historic element, we made our way to the Horse Guards on the Whitehall and watched the guards on horse back taking position and it was brilliant to watch, the surrounding area is really steeped in 100’s of years of history
Will it pass the Mall? Service at Westminster abbey, then off for burial at Windsor.. Likely big screens in Hyde park, like there was for Diana.
As I understand it, the procession will start at the palace and go down the Mall with the family walking behind. According to the news.
Right. I read something a bit different. Didn't mention Palace. So I suppose Mall - Trafalgar Square & right down Whitehall to the Abbey? That's a 15 minute walk, normally. Aye, it'll be rammed every inch of the way. Security nightmare.
The biggest ever security operation for an event the world as ever seen. I would expect most if not all living American presidents to turn up. You'll have all our major politicians over the decades, as well as from around the world. There will be people camping out days in advance for a good position. There were people camping outside the hospital for days on end before Kate Middleton had even gone in to labour. Royals have more obsessed fans than most.
When you lay it out like that just how many of the worlds most high profile people will be in London that day, I thank God I am not in charge of security. I doubt whoever it is will sleep for the next 10 days.
I saw this great lady on 27 October 1954 as she & Prince Philip walked up Regent Street where I worked. And as I and others hung out of a first floor toilet window, saw them smiling and waving back to the thousands thronging the street five deep. At which time that great lady was 28.
